Poll of the Day » People are constantly on their phones at the theatre now
The last time I saw a film in theatres without seeing multiple phones out was...Endgame maybe? Am I going crazy? It wasn't nearly this bad pre-pandemic.

Talking is way worse too.

I'm starting to buy into COVID causing permanent brain damage more and more.

I saw Deadpool and Wolverine a couple weeks ago and noticed the same thing.

When the fuck did people en masse lose a sense of basic fucking manners?
Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. Kill 10 men: You are a monster.
Kill 100 men: You are a hero. Kill 10,000 men, you are a conqueror!
Bro we are moving closer to becoming robots. We are picking up artificial intelligence and losing emotional intelligence.

These phones are collecting our data. We are losing our ways as humans.
I was about to chime in that I agree it's ridiculous... But realized I'm on my phone right now posting this message.
It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of ass but still have plenty of bubblegum to chew at my leisure.

Its not about using your phone it's about when you use it.

Using your phone in a movie theater can be rude but it sounds just plain stupid if you paid for the tickets. Something more blatantly rude is if you are having dinner with someone and you're on your phone the entire time instead of talking to that person

People are constantly on their phones...now

Delicious and vicious, while maliciously nutritious.
Reminds me of this one time I went to the theatre.
This women kept pulling out her phone over and over.
Finally this other woman shouted across the theatre, " turn off your phone!".
She shouts back "I can't my daughter is home sick and I'm checking on her"
The first voice shouts back "then you should have stayed home to take care of her like a good mother"

... Silence. The phone went away lol.

The theaters have gotten better around me, so the seats are more spaced out and the audio output is always so loud that I cant hear anyone talking. At least, thats the way its been for the 4 or so times Ive been post pandemic

but yeah this stuff has always infuriated me. People can be so obnoxious
Big yellow joint big yellow joint I'll meet you down at the big yellow joint
I think the last movie I saw in theaters was the northman, maybe the batman, either way it was 2022 and I didn't notice that problem. People really need to stop that, it's ridiculous.

I very rarely go to theaters. Can't even remember the last time. But I know I can't watch a show or a movie with my wife without her being on her phone basically the entire time and hardly paying attention. I routinely have to rewind because she misses important parts

You should be angry at her and ask if she even cares

When they started spending all their time on phones and tablets and not interacting with other human beings.

The pandemic just accelerated that by locking everyone away for a year or so, and encouraging us to avoid people even more. But the technology itself is the real problem, because it kind of isolates us from our perception of other people and sense of community/society, so in the process tends to really dampen our ability to give a fuck about what other people think, or even be aware that they think anything at all.

Basically, smart phones and social media gave everyone main character syndrome.

Last time I was in a theater was before smart phones where everywhere (they existed, and I had one, but still pretty niche). So it wasn't really a problem.

I feel like there has to be more to it than that.

Like, I'm on a computer most of the day. I work from home full time and I also spend some of my free time gaming or watching Youtube videos, so much of my day is spent looking at screens. I've somehow managed to retain a set of basic manners and common decency through it all.

Sure, screens might be part of the problem, but I don't feel like they're the only part.

It's not really the screens themselves. It's social media behavior leaking more and more into real life. People have no manners on social media
I play around on mine until the movie starts (like after the previews and stupid production company logos). Never during a movie unless it's end credits or just really REALLY bad (like the ending of Dark Phoenix)
yeah, I'm thinking I'm back
I once went to an afternoon showing of Spider-Man No Way Home, back in like 2021 or 2022, and there was only 3 of us in the theater, and one of them was a lone woman sitting with blanket, and a big laptop with the bright screen open the whole time lol. I have no idea what was going on but it looked like she was camping out in there. The lights didnt bother me or anything, just saying

Theres never anybody else there when I go. The last 5 or 6 times Ive had it all to myself.
