The nice thing about the dragonballs is you can't say any BS like "I'll just wish for more wishes" because Shenron won't allow that

at best you can only wish for strength up to Kami's power if we're going by original earth dragonballs. who is still fuckin strong and would break earth's balance, but weaker than the dbz crew at the start of the series

and I don't think anyone's ever actually wished for power, so he might be able to give less power than Kami has. namek magic balls seem to just solve specific problems whenever you need them to

Sorry, what gave you that idea? If its the whole can't go to heaven/hell thing, that was Ryuk trying to scare Light, he confirms there is no heaven/hell, all humans go to "Mu" which is nothing.

The only penalty is if you take the eye deal, you lose half your life span.

The limitations of the Dragon Balls are decided by the power/magic of the Namekian who generated the balls. So for example, a much weaker guy would make a set that has 3 Dragon Balls which is easier to gather but less things you can do with your wishes.

That being said, just having the Dragon Balls without some magic Namekian there would just turn them into pretty accessories just like Infinite Stones when taken out of their native world. Best you would be able to do is sell them to some rich Dragon Ball fan for lots of money.

Yeah, but that's mainly because everyone in that show was insanely overpowered. Even the joke characters.

But this topic isn't asking which universe you'd rather live in, as much as it's implying bringing those things into our universe.

And you could probably wish yourself powerful enough for our universe, where none of those other characters exist. Almost certainly powerful enough to murder pretty much anyone you want without needing a Death Note.

Imagine being Superman in a world without Kryptonite, and without any other heroes or villains to stop you. Now imagine being even more powerful than that. There's no real reason why the wish couldn't do that.

That's less a power limitation and more the fact that the characters are all stupid honorable warrior types. They all want to work hard and become stronger on their own without "cheating". There's nothing that inherently says you can't.

Plus, in their universe you kind of need to be powerful already to collect them at all, so they have even less motivation to make that wish. But in this scenario they're just being given to you.

Anyone who says they want a death note instead of magic orbs that can grant any (reasonable) wish should be on a list. Normal people have basically 0 use for something that can only kill people and isn't fun to use like a gun.
If I get at least two wishes, Dragon Balls. Wish for a crap ton of money and a working Dragon Radar, because the only way I'd get to use them again is if I had both the ability to track them down across the world after they scatter, and the money to actually do it.

But with badness levels inversely proportional to the nature of the wish. As long as I keep making selfish wishes, there's no problem.

I am unfamiliar with the limitations on the dragon balls so am inclined to go Death Note just based on more info on it. If the dragon can grant mind or time control im game, otherwise the book for me.

Dragonballs

I can just wish for a death note
In the long run we are all dead
I think people are unfamilar with the idea of dragonballs. You can't wish to be super powerful, only to have your physical limit enhanced. They're not the Super Dragonballs so you can't just wish for Gokus body, for example.

You can't wish for things beyond Shenrons power, so magicking in a death note is gone.

Still though, one decent wish to improve your life? You could wish only one person back from the dead I suppose if its the OG Dragonballs? Or for money?

Death note might help you sleep better by you eliminating all the wrong doers from the world, but...then you might be tempted to blackmail people. Or write all those who disagree with you, such as republicans or democrats who actively make choices to make the world a worser place in your view.

I think Dragonballs it is

the only limitation shenron has for killing is that it cannot kill something more powerful than itself

so a death note would work just fine since it can only kill people and nothing else

Which is an arbitrary limit. The example is killing the Saiyans. But they could have wished an asteroid hit their pod and it flies into the sun. Problem solved. Shenron isn't weak, the characters are just stupid.

Yes this is exactly the psychotic sort of answer that makes it clear that anyone who would ask for a death note should be in a CIA black site with a bag on their head 24 hours a day.

what if they used the death note to only kill rapists and murderers

DBZ does not work at all when people try and pick it apart like its Hunter x Hunter or something. The show is just a bunch of really cool stuff that doesn't hold up to the slightest scrutiny. Nothing that happens in DBZ could be made more interesting by wondering "What if [x character] did [really clever thing]?" because deep strategy and careful manipulation of properties/rules is diametrically opposed to Toriyama's writing.

"What if DBZ but with at least one or two people that can both fight have an IQ higher than 85?" is a cool premise but its pretty close to Hunter x Hunter or Jujutsu Kaisen.

Oh yeah, my bad. Clearly indiscriminate murder and imprisoning (aspiring) psychotic indiscriminate murderers are exactly the same thing and equally bad.

And like, did you ever read or watch Death Note? The life path of that Yagami Light fellow is probably relevant to this discussion.

Your "what if" scenario of using a death note to only kill bad people is literally the premise of the series. And if it isn't obvious by now it turns out that the guy who takes it upon himself to cleanse the Earth of "bad people" ends up not being the hero. Huge twist, I know.

And again, in the specific scenario of someone being offered dragon balls (literally any wish within reason can be yours and possibly many more in the future if you work hard) or a death note (an apocalyptic murder device that can do nothing but deliberately assassinate people in inhumane ways) and them openly declaring "please! please! give me the murder tool so I can use it!" there is no moral question about cutting that person off from society forever.

I also understand that this not a real scenario, dude. I'm not literally on the phone with the CIA trying to track you down. I do also think saying "man it would be a huge thrill to just execute some fucker on live tv" is a messed up fantasy to have when the only context is "what would it be like to have a death note" as opposed to "I'm playing Hitman on Discord with my friends" or whatever.
