I live 5 minutes over the Delaware from Philly. Ain't shit to see there. Look at the liberty bell and bounce.I couldn't pass up the cheap flight. It would have been even cheaper to take the train to new york and come back from there, but the extra fees and the costs of hotels in the area made me consider it a wash. So after spending Wednesday Thursday and Friday morning walking around I'll spend Friday evening in Chicago. Not sure if I will extend the chicago stay or take the night train back home.
Definitely browse the Italian market in Philly and get a cheese steak (from Pat's, not Gino's). Also, not sure if they still have it, but you can get a breakfast cheese steak from some street meat carts. If you find one, get it, those are freaking awesome.Honestly I would skip both Pat's and Gino's, there are plenty of hole-in-the-wall little places where you can get better cheese steaks than the more touristy locations.(At least as far as my personal preference for cheesesteaks is concerned.) Reading Terminal Market is also good, especially if it isn't Sunday when all the Amish places are closed.
In Philadelphia, check out the Reading Marketplace. Thanks for the recs. I'll check them out.

Literally the greatest donut Ive had in my life.
Honestly, a lot of great food in that market. I went there last year for my cousins wedding, so let me know if you need any more recommendations. He lives there and knows it well.
My girlfriend has a pierogi restaurant in the Phili area that I recommend. I would skip some of the pizza places though. A lot of very unsanitary workers making bad pies. What restaurant? I'll see if I can swing by.

I might have one while I'm there to compare to what I have had, but it's a pretty low priority. I also can't stand onions. I'll definitely check out the markets though. The amish stuff might be neat, but I'm really looking forward to seeing stuff I can't easily see in rural wisconsin.

Literally the greatest donut Ive had in my life.It was a good doughnut, but if that was the best in your life you need better doughnuts.
It's so weird how there are so few bars around here. Also, in my experience in philly/Pennsylvania, it's nearly impossible to buy beer outside of a bar. You have to buy directly from a distributor. It's dumb as shit and one of many reasons Philly sucks

Everyone suggests Reading market. It's pronounced "redding" just a heads upIf he got the Beiler's doughnut he has already been there.

It's been years since I've been to the Philly zoo...2009 I think. It was fun, but honestly smaller than I thought it would be. It's been a while since Ive been there, but I think the Henry Villas zoo was better and it has free admission. So I was expecting a bit more for $25.
It was fun, but honestly smaller than I thought it would be. It's been a while since Ive been there, but I think the Henry Villas zoo was better and it has free admission. So I was expecting a bit more for $25.I mean, it is the oldest zoo in the US and they are kind of boxed in by the city now so it is difficult to expand. I think they got rid of some of the animals they used to have because they couldn't build large enough enclosures by modern standards.
Still a worth while couple of hours.
The Lego exhibit was surprising.Franklin Institute?

Franklin Institute?Yup
YupThey do get some really cool traveling exhibits but the last time I was there the normal exhibits hadn't aged well. They kind of have the EPCOT problem where it is hard to keep technology up to date.
