Just go around exploring, getting used to the combat. Find optional dungeons, run into a bear and get mauled

If I invest a bunch of points upgrading a rock on a stick as my main weapon, will I regret it later because the base stats suck and then I can't upgrade the axe of godcision later

So are later weapons significantly stronger than the beginner ones? Or once they're all upgraded is it basically the same?

It's a mixed bag. You can find some decent weapons early on but there's definitely some better gear further into the game.

This game is set up different than earlier From games too in that if you felt like googling "best Dex weapon Elden Ring" for example, chances are pretty good that you can bypass large parts of the game and go straight for that weapon, or focus on completing a couple things that will enable you to get that weapon, rather than play through half the game to get it

My brother wanted a particular sword and had to kill one boss to get it. It was fairly deep into the map, but he literally ran past everything in his path to get this sword (which From nerfed like a day later lmao)

There really isn't much for casters early on. My starting staff for my sorcerer (Astrologer class) carried me through a huge chunk of the game. I held off using major upgrade materials on it. Saved those for when I inevitably found better gear but I did upgrade the starter staff and honestly it scales pretty well even against late-game staves

Damage-wise the differences aren't super large between weapons in the same class so I recommend finding a weapon with an Ash of War that feels good to use. Weapons that can be upgraded with regular smithing stones can have their Ash of War and affinity customized. Somber smithing stone weapons are locked in place. Bloodhound's Fang is a somber weapon you can find in Limgrave and its Ash of War has carried me through the entire game

I actually used a variety of weapons. My main weapon was a Zweihander, but on the horse I used the Commander's Standard, and I used the standard's buff at the start of boss battles. I also used Radahn's greatswords a bit in the second half of the game.

I upgraded at least 20 weapons to +24/+9 and I tried using a variety of things but nothing ever felt as good as Bloodhound's Fang or Blasphemous Blade to me. Rivers of Blood is definitely good but I think I prefer the feel of heavier weapons. I do like to run around the lower level areas with different weapons but when it was time for a tough fight, I break out the Fang

hardest part of switching from moonviel to rivers was understanding the range of piler, it is deceptively long and short

i have a holy enchantment on one of my weapons. can't use it or spirit ashes in this dungeon for some reason so killing the necromancer is the best bet.

the weapon enchant spells only work on weapons that do not already have an "effect".

so only normal, quality, keen, ect. if it has bleed, or poison or frost, ect. they wont work.

ashes are typically only usable in boss fights

Yeah it sucks I have so many waxes I can never use. Too bad you can't buff infused weapons.

Dude so my brother beat this game and used guides and online maps and shit, where I've been playing kinda blind, and he keeps telling me all the stuff I'm missing lol

I'm doubling back to areas I thought were completed and finding whole caves and bosses I haven't done yet. Huge amounts of content in areas already packed with content. This game is amazing

Fortunately the endings that are tied to trophies are pretty hard to lock yourself out of accidentally. The most missable thing is a spear that's needed for a trophy that becomes unavailable after defeating a late boss

I'm gonna look this up. I remember something similar with Bloodborne but I never did it because I needed a thumbdrive to pull it off on PS4 and couldn't be bothered at the time.

Ended up getting the endings naturally, but this game is way bigger so I might give this a shot because I don't really have time for multiple playthroughs lol

Lol I hear that. I love this game but I still have a big backlog to go through, but I would be so annoyed being 1 or 2 trophies away from the plat due to the endings. Transferring to and from cloud storage is how I got it done

but ya,

the main thing putting me off from the game is the high price tag - $80 for standard and $100 for deluxe.

The arrows are literally homing arrows. It doesn't matter which direction an enemy fires an arrow, it homes in on you.

I'm not really sure why they did that to be honest. Dodging arrows in Dark Souls or bullets in Bloodborne was never that bad. I guess distance is a bigger factor in Elden Ring than it ever was in those other games.

Yeah I couldn't even see the monster shooting them until I rode way further
i'm likely done playing now

i did start a ng+ to do storylines i missed the first time around, like diallos, nephali, and alexander, but i'm just not that interested anymore

i'll keep my eyes open and check patch notes and just wait for dlc

I hadn't really played for a couple weeks but I think I've hit my first real wall with this game.

Level 68, STR / FTH build with pretty decent equipment, but it seems like everywhere I could possibly go next just wrecks me. Caelid? Hahaha, no. Maybe try killing that bridge dragon now? Nope. Hey, let's try Volcano Manor (or whatever it's called in south Caelid) can hardly get past the friggin' bridge.

Backtracking to old points of interest is doable, but I earn such paltry runes from everything it seems mighty counterproductive. I've cleared a ton of side dungeons and caves, except the ones I can't- best example being that dungeon with the headless phantom right outside.

I did Stormveil, the Academy, that joint with all the hand monsters, most (all?) of Sofia River.. This game was so much fun but now it's just getting aggravating. If it continues along this trajectory I can totally see how lots of people shit on the late/end-game content and bosses.

Oh I haven't played in over a month. I only completed one play through, then Kirby and the Forgotten Land came out, and that had my attention for a while, then I had a hankerin' to play some Bloodborne and Dark Souls, so I did that, then KH4 was announced, and I was like "man I should play KH3 finally" so I played KH2, and I'm gonna start KH3 for the first time today.

Yo how's Kirby my kids want it but I'm on the fence. I wasn't crazy about Star Allies

I'm still picking my way slowly through my first playthrough in ER. Just opened up Forbidden Lands / Mountaintops lol loving this game but yeah I don't see myself doing another playthrough any time soon
