I'd be considered a leftist by most metrics, and I have never once voted for the Democrats (nor the Republicans). I think the two-party system limits nuance and ideas and promotes polarity, and the best thing for the U.S. would be to introduce more parties to represent more ideas. So I always vote for the political candidate belonging to the third-party with the most traction. I know plenty of other left-leaning people who feel this way too.
