Yes, I somewhat prefer it to the rebranded Doki Doki Panic although I understand why they chose to rebrand Doki Doki Panic since it kinda doesn't work as a full game by itself. It was, however, a pack-in for the GB version of SMB.

not sure if true but I heard doki doki panic was originally intended to be a mario game, but they changed it. then of course changed it again when it came here. either way though I still love the game just for being able to choose characters. being the younger sibling luigi was always my favorite, and peach was fun to play too.

It is not hard as much as it is punishing and tedious. I'm someone that likes the original game too (a lot) and the original was difficult but didn't force you into these awkward jumps over and over and over again just to wear down your patience.
