No, I still believe in man made climate change because the science is there.

Isn't climate change awareness a way for people to not lose their homes in the first place?

This. Seems appropriate to me.
The body is still warm so to speak. I don't deny it being relevant to the situation but there's still a place and time for such discussion.
"You must gather your party before venturing forth"

I would say no.

Apparently it happened 1000 years ago? So it's probably more evidence that things are cyclical.

However, it's basically human race standard to look in the face of evidence and deny it exists. So i doubt this will change anyone's mind.
Remember, right now they are tearing down statues and trying to start a civil war... Because they are offended by the last civil war.....*facepalm*

Are you suggesting that combative measures would certainly ensure that this hurricane wouldn't have happened? If so, you may need to review the science yourself.

And for what it's worth, this hurricane should absolutely not change anyone's mind about climate change. If you didn't believe in it in the first place, then a natural disaster should not be taken as evidence that you were wrong. I could make the same argument about a wrathful god sending the hurricane because people in Texas were wrong about religion and I'd rightly be called out as a moron. Stop begging the question. Reasoning like this does absolutely nothing to help combat climate change.

How the hell is "climate change awareness" supposed to stop a hurricane from happening?

The hurricane would probably be intimidated by our vast pseudo-intellect.

If we educate the hurricane about how the burdens of climate change fall disproportionately on developing countries, it would fuck off and go screw with some African place nobody's ever heard of.

No, but nor should it, and that is true regardless of whether you acknowledge man-made climate change is real or not.

I always get annoyed with people who take this attitude, even ignoring how tacky it is ("Hah, sucks to be you! If you'd just believed in climate change, your house and all your possessions would still be around!"), because it has absolutely no basis in science. Saying any one event is attributable to climate change is absurd, because the science simply isn't that precise. For all we know, this one particular storm could have been worse in a world without anthropogenic climate change.

You can't attribute individual events to climate change; you can only note trends. Harvey is one data-point on the graph, not a trendline in and of itself.
Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. Kill 10 men: You are a monster.
Kill 100 men: You are a hero. Kill 10,000 men, you are a conqueror!
If this is a direct result of climate change, I'd say they should change their minds about climate change.

Perhaps, but it'll still be the same issue in a week or a month...I don't get the impression the TC was trying to slight their problems, just to get a perspective on if their ideas might shift a little now that it's 'in their backyard' so to speak. If they meant to be a tool then by all means, have at it.

and here we have

ad hominem

You attacked your opponent's character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine their argument.

There was no logical fallacy involved in my emotional reaction to your source of information, as I was not even able to review the information contained therein. This was not in an attempt to undermine your argument, attack your character, or personal traits, as I'm trying to learn something here. It was merely a knee-jerk reaction to your linking of a source that is known to present unreliable information to the general public, instead of just doing it yourself.

That's because I didn't Google it. I also noticed that you didn't actually try to explain what climate change even is in your own words, gave me a link to a website that doesn't even work properly, and basically just told me to look it up myself, whilst assuming I had an inherent bias against the idea of climate change. I wonder why that is.

(it seems to be the result of you making the assumption that I may be stupider than I actually am, which I must note that I find insulting, my good sir)

It's too subtle. Nothing short of God yelling it at everyone would make it universally accepted. Even then maybe not.

Apply a simple "geico rule" to these sort of things:

If inserting "I just saved 15% on my car insurance by switching to GEICO" would be awkward for the conversation, anything else is likely to be awkward also.
