i was shocked and dismayed to hear that the bible encourages humans, or should i say "God", gave humans the power to tread on SNAKES and SCORPIONS because they're "evil" creatures!!...

If God exists he determines what is evil and what is good. If he says to murder women and children in his name, that is a good deed and to disobey would be evil.

I don't think the people from a couple thousand years ago cared about animal ethics, especially not when they had no anti-venom and it was probably certain doom to be bitten by them.
