Charmander. Charmander is definitely in my top10 fave starters, Squirtle might be in there but he's not definite.

How is Charmander winning? The first 2 gym leaders are hard with him. Its a tough pokemon for beginners. Squirtle is beast against both them and then beast again against Blaine.

if you're going through the game for the first time, especially as a kid, not finding a pikachu or knowing that butterfree learns confusion after picking charmander, yeah they can be pretty hard.
