The stories are just interesting enough to keep your attention, but nothing mind blowing. They're mostly self contained to the individual characters with flavor text of your party thrown in. Serviceable, but that's about it.
The combat system is a lot of fun. It offers a layer of strategy on top of the normal turn based combat, and the mix and match jobs give it a bit of variety
The music is S tier, 10/10, a lot of it still randomly pops in and gets stuck in my head. It's also very cleverly designed to flow together in a way that pre boss dialogue flows perfectly into the boss theme no matter where you're at in the track, so extra points for that. There was clearly a lot of love put into the OST
Art style I figure you'll either love or hate. I personally really love the HD 2D thing, and the in battle boss and enemy sprites are super well done. Octopath 2 improves on this even more imo, with some really interesting dynamic camera shots and particle effects in battle
I enjoyed my time with it even though I never got around to the very end game stuff, solid 8/10 imo
