The US's missile defence system can't handle Russia's *current* arsenal - it could maybe down a couple of missiles, but if Russia ever unloaded its entire arsenal at the US or any of her allies, it is literally impossible for the US's current defences to stop all or even most of the missiles. Hell, the entire point of MAD centres on the fact that *no one* can effectively defend against a nuclear assault, which is supposed to serve as a deterrent on anyone ever using them.
