I was an undergraduate a long time ago but the remedial classe was called "Pre-Algebra". You had to test out of it or Pass it to take "Algebra" (Algebra II, I think it was called).
Which is also remedial.
Calculus is the first math that's not explicitly supposed to be covered in High School. Algebra II is pre-calculus.
I don't know. Maybe among math & science majors that is true, but I don't think others would agree. I went to a good school (an Ivy, many moons ago) and most non-math and science majors don't even get to calculus. YMMV.
