The problem with the "Desmond > Locke" state of mind is that Locke was good when the show was good and mattered. Desmond was too, but his only real highlight was the Season 2 finale. By the time you get to the shitshow of seasons 4, 5, and 6, who really cares at that point. That'd be like saying Theon Greyjoy or Bran Stark are better than Tyrion Lannister or Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, because of Theon or Bran's development in later seasons that nobody cares about, while completely disregarding the Tyrion or Jaime quality from the early seasons that people loved just because they became a nonentity in the lamer late seasons.

That said, Desmond is still easily a Top 3 Lost character, but that's just how bad most of the characters are, even when the show was great.
