I'm not so sure about that article.
We may not have any mandatory vacation days paid to all full time workers, but for all we know, those 10 days they get in Japan may be many people's only ones. After all, it's sort of well known that quite a few Japanese workers commit literal suicide by jumping out of their office buildings.
It's well known to geeks because American nerds like to deflect their culture's problems. To the rest of the developed world the US is the one with the stereotype of overworking.
