It might be harsh, but yeah this is the way to do it. If you truly don't want yourself entangled, just don't text. She'll get the message, and I hardly think it's ruder than saying "sorry, this can't continue, I'm blocking your number" and actually going through with it because nobody does that.
The idea that you'd text her back IN ORDER TO cut the relationship off seems like you're being dishonest with yourself. If you want no more of this, it's ghostin' time.
