At restrictor plate races (Daytona, Talledega) the finish is always insanely close. Everyone drafts in two and sometimes three single file lanes. It's not uncommon for there to be two or three lead changes on the final lap.
NASCAR used to be a pretty damn good series before the Chase was implemented. Now only a few races per year actually matter. The elimination rounds made it even worse, to be honest. With sponsors and fans leaving I don't think it'll last the decade at the current pace.
