It's not a genre that I really know much of but I want to get more into it.

I recently discovered Witchfinder General and I'm really liking it. (I knew the band by name but never really gave their stuff a proper listen until very recently)

I've listened to some of Pentagram's early albums and am enjoying that too.

What else is worth checking out?

Edit:Yall. After listening to the stuff recommended in here and witchfinder general. I thing we got 2 different branches of doom metal in mind.

I previously posted Trouble in one of your topics. They don't get enough credit. 80's era Metallica really enjoyed them and James talked about them and how they influenced even the thrash metal bands.

Doom metal isn't a genre I'm into really but I do like Trouble.

Also for what it is worth my friend likes this type of stuff and he really likes Bongripper, Saturnus, and thinks Electric Wizard is top tier.

I really don't know any specific songs though and these subjects are always tricky because a lot of times they involve sub genres of sub genres and personally the whole sub genre thing is always something I kind of avoided. People started coming up with so many terms for bands that were just "metal" to me. Like yeah I get it, there are differences like 80's era Metallica is distinctly different than like 1990's era Pantera so I get why people use some of these terms. But ultimately I just don't know where some of these lines are drawn. Like many people call Black Sabbath doom metal or at least pioneers of it and to me they were always just classic heavy metal and I think they are a lot different than the "big four" of doom metal. It feels like doom metal can have a wide variety of sound and more so than other sub genres seems prone to having sub genres within the sub genre.

Reverend Bizarre was a damn good band that played in the classic doom style.
