god. its like they knew they couldnt do Blade 1 again so they didnt even try, and the movie SOARED for it

it had amazing restraint not having Blade be 100% screen dominating badass til like 50% through the movie. because when it does get to that sewer scene where hes like you obviously do not know who you are FUCKING with that shit was so epic i couldnt breathe

and then again when he reveals he knew all along to scud. and then AGAIN when he fights through 20 dudes while maintaining unflinching eye contact with ron perlman the whole time

also its actually insane how much resident evil 5 lifts from these movies. the majini are legit straight up the reaper vampires

*please no talk of the third movie, i want to see it as blind as possible*

yea, I remember enjoying the second one (even more than the first).

I think it benefited by having things not be so black and white, like, with not all the vampires were evil, not all the humans were good, and some of their motivations being complicated.

like this shit really is the blueprint in a very obvious way. except no one can do it but Blade. the only way to win is to go completely different in style, like Raimi spider-man (which STILL copies stuff from Blade!!)

I do find the hate on it to be a little overstated. It's not nearly as good and it's extremely silly, but the first movie had goofy-ass villains as well and the action makes it worth a watch.

This. It's fine by the standards of the time, but that's a step down from what may very well have been the first good marvel movies as well as the first good "mature" comic book movies that I can think of.

Could also very well just be that it wasn't "new" any more. I should probably go watch the trilogy again some time, it's been years and I've forgotten most of the movies.

Yeah, tempted, but I won't say any more about Blade: Trinity that's already been said in this thread.

Blade 1 was a good set-up, Blade II was a massive payoff.
Probably helps that they gave Blade a lot more things to say, and therefore letting his personality come through more. Aside from a couple of bits here and there, it was put together really well.

Kinda wish they had shown the fight with Nomak against those goons in the third act. Would've been a damn good mirror scene with what Blade does shortly after his blood bath.

Just want to apologize again for the last topic OP.

But they fucking did it again with this one, Guillermo Del Toro just keeps hitting home runs for the most part even when it's a Marvel comic book movie. Dude can shift seamlessly between stuff like Blade II, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim, and then go right into Frankenstein, Pan's Labyrinth, and Crimson Peak, gotta hand it to him.

And as previously mentioned in the thread, there's only ever gonna be one Blade.

I think it works because they don't "superhero" Blade up, if that makes sense. There's also interesting lore interspersed in the movie. It reminds me of Constantine in that respect (although I might be the only person who liked Constantine)
Both are flawed dudes trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Early "Marvel" movies were peak. Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man.

Iron Man was a good movie but simultaneously the worst thing to happen to Marvel because every movie had to be Iron Man after that.

Personally I liked Daredevil and Hulk. Hulk was kind of weird with a wholly original story but as a kind of self contained story it was alright.

I actually like Punisher with Tom Jane. I know it's not a good movie but I just enjoy it a lot. Also enjoy the PS2 game.

Thomas Jane punisher is pathetic both as a punisher movie and as a movie movie imo. i'm an insanely big punisher fan and i cant abide it. it gets nothing right and it's overall boring

the game, however, is absolute peak. iirc garth ennis was a writer on it so it makes sense. and Jane's performance in it is exceptional
