They cant have small non-Hamas militias ruin their hold of whatever power vacuum thats vacant in Gaza from the Israeli forces leaving. This is their peace through power.

These militias will go from local watchdog to usurping Hamas in a heartbeat with support, regardless where it comes from. Im certain US-Israel is burned in their bones and i expect even more war torn conflicts to happen there while Hamas tries to regain control. Its just the way it is now there until Hamas stabilizes again.

I'm not sure how you get rid of Hamas and PIJ patrols if any militia that comes up against them is being instantly wiped out.

This would probably require some kind Arab League force on the ground.

I'd take that news with a pinch of salt considering the source.

Sure. This scrutiny should be applied to all information coming from the area. I don't object to this approach. Journalism is usually the first target in a warzone and that was on full display

Journalism was a target even before it was a war zone. Don't forget when Israel emptied entire news agencies from a building, giving them like an hour to evacuate before exploding it on the thinnest of pretenses.

Al-Jazeera and others like them also do their own propaganda pieces. Isreal bombing the building is a bad look but they didn't kill anyone from this assault. This looks like they were sending a message. Bibi is one to do that. Journalism and propaganda are harder to define these days. US being a prime example of this but not limited to US.

You do realize the message is "We can abuse the shit out of you at anytime so watch yourself" towards the press right? That shit would never fly at the domestic level, why should it fly at the international level?

You realize at the international level. The UN was upholding none of their agreements and let hamas shoot rockets next to their buildings.

I'm not condoning their actions. I think that's the wrong way to look at it. I'm looking at the historical things that Bibi does and this is on par with his antics. Given that he will assassinate his own prime minister only for people to vote him in next.

Journalism and propaganda are harder to define these days.

I think it's more clear than ever what's propaganda and what's journalism. In part because the propagandists are being open and mask-off, no longer trying to hide what they're propagandizing at all.

"They're just edgelord kids," said the propagandist, referring to some near-40-year-olds being openly nazis in their chat room.

"A nice news agency and set of correspondents you have there. A shame if anything else happened to them," sure is quite the message. And they didn't have to kill anyone to send it, but they sure killed a great deal of ability to speak out against it.

Exclusive: Hamas aims to keep grip on Gaza security and can't commit to disarm, senior official says

Senior Hamas official says group will be present on the ground
Mohammed Nazzal asks 'to whom will the weapons be handed over'?
Hamas wants truce of at least three to five years, Nazzal says

F*** Hamas. Seriously. If this is their position going forward (instead of just a negotiating tactic, which is possible but I doubt) then this will clearly lead to a resumption of the war. They are literally willing to let the massacres continue on just so they don't disarm.

Pretty dumb and awful statements that don't bode well. The only hope is very heavy pressure from Hamas' allies and the rest of the Arab states being put on them to disarm.

Start to finish, Hamas are not the good guys. But do you think an effectively disarmed Gaza isn't going to have the massacres (and settlements and gradual loss of territory and... etc., etc.) continue on?

Netanyahu would steamroll the rest of Palestine.

Hamas shouldn't be the answer, to anything, militarily or politically... at the same time, who out there has the ability to even pretend to hold the line right this second against Israel if Hamas goes poof?

Marco Rubio warns Israel not to annex West Bank after Knesset vote in favour

The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, on Wednesday warned Israel against annexing the West Bank, calling lawmakers preliminary vote to extend sovereignty in the occupied area and the surge in settler violence there a threat to peace.

A bill applying Israeli law to the occupied West Bank, a move tantamount to the annexation of land Palestinians want for a state, won preliminary approval from Israels parliament on Wednesday, barely a week after Donald Trump pushed through a deal aimed at ending a two-year Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Annexation moves were potentially threatening for the peace deal, Rubio told reporters. Theyre a democracy, theyre going to have their votes, and people are going to take these positions. But at this time, its something that we think might be counterproductive.

Although the bill still requires several rounds of approval to become law, its preliminary passage has embarrassed Benjamin Netanyahu, who had earlier urged lawmakers to delay its presentation during US vice-president JD Vances visit an effort to preserve the fragile Gaza ceasefire. Washington has repeatedly said that any annexation of the West Bank would cross a red line.

I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, Donald Trump told reporters at the White House in September. Its not going to happen.
I think the presidents made clear thats not something we can be supportive of right now, Rubio said of annexation as he boarded his plane for a visit to Israel.

Defying Netanyahus warnings he had also urged MPs from his Likud party to abstain shouting erupted in the Knesset during the vote. Avi Maoz, a member of the far-right Noam party, declared: The time has come to apply sovereignty, insisting Israelis had a duty to settle in the land of Israel.

Some in Trumps administration had previously backed Israels goal of annexing the West Bank. But the mood has shifted as several Arab and Islamic states whose support Washington is seeking to help fund and staff a postwar stabilisation force in Gaza have voiced strong opposition to any move to expand Israeli sovereignty in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 when it was captured from Jordan in the six-day war. Since then, successive governments have tried to permanently cement Israeli control over the land, in part by declaring swathes of the territory as state lands, which prevents private Palestinian ownership.

Since Hamass attack on 7 October 2023, which triggered Israels offensive in Gaza, the countrys far-right government the most extreme in its history has accelerated efforts to annex the West Bank, approving dozens of new settlements across the occupied Palestinian territories in an unprecedented expansion.

In August, Israel approved a long-delayed settlement project that would effectively sever the occupied West Bank from East Jerusalem, bisecting the territory and further undermining hopes for a viable Palestinian state.

Construction in the so-called E1 area has been stalled for more than two decades amid international opposition, but a defence ministry committee gave the go-ahead for 3,400 homes. The far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who lives in the West Bank settlement of Kedumim, which is considered illegal under international law, announced the plans in summer, saying the very idea of a Palestinian state was being erased.

Alongside political moves toward annexing Palestinian territory, settler violence against Palestinians has sharply intensified since the war in Gaza began.
According to the UN, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the occupied West Bank since 7 October 2023, while thousands more have been forcibly displaced by settler attacks, movement restrictions and home demolitions.

The UN reports that in the first half of 2025 there were 757 settler attacks resulting in casualties or property damage, a 13% rise compared with the same period last year.

Asked about increased violence by extremist Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, Rubio said: Were concerned about anything that threatens to destabilise what weve worked on.

On Monday, a 55-year-old Palestinian woman was taken to hospital after being beaten over the head by a masked Israeli settler while she was picking olives. Video footage of the attack shows the man striking her unconscious with a stick before hitting her again as she lay motionless on the ground.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Israels supreme court held a hearing into whether to open the Gaza Strip to the international media, giving the state 30 days to present a new position in light of the ceasefire.
Israel has almost completely blocked reporters from entering Gaza since the war began.
