Wore glasses as a kid/teen, switched to mostly contacts with backup glasses through my 20s and most of my 30s. Got lasik earlier this year. Laser surgery is the way to go. Sucks for about 24-48 hours immediately after, but after that, it's wild just being able to see. The procedure itself doesn't hurt, it's just awkward as fuck as it's hard to keep your still.

glasses for a few reasons

1) i can change up how i look
2) sometimes i dont feel like seeing and can turn clear vision on or off at will
3) my drivers license has a note on it saying i need glasses, which translates to a get out of jail free card whenever I dont want to go somewhere
"oh, sorry, i cant go, my glasses fell behind a heavy piece of furniture"

Used to wear daily contacts all the time, but as I get older I find I wear glasses more often.

Finding I value the lack of faffing around more than the vanity aspect. (Though they are Ray-Bans with transition lenses, so the vanity thing is still there).

Got PRK (laser eye surgery) in 2014.

has held up, though I hear it isn't a permanent fix necessarily, especially as you get older.

I'd do it again if I had to. If that was ineffective I'd probably look into something like permanent contact implants or something

Wire glasses from 5th-7th grade (~2001-2003), then contacts until just before covid when I grabbed glasses again.

One of the better-timed decisions of my life, honestly.

Nowadays I go between the two, but I'd be willing to get LASIK.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Glasses aren't too tricky to get used to.

You'll be a little nauseous for a while while your brain adjusts to it, you'll almost definitely bump the corners on shit for a while, then you just have to get used to the feeling.

Contacts can be a right pain in the ass to learn, depending on how effective you are at fighting the blink reflex. Took me weeks to months to get it down, but nowadays I can basically rest my finger on my eyeball without a twitch.

If I'm touching the contact, I mean, a finger in the eye still hurts.

Having experienced a scratched cornea and recurrent corneal erosion contacts are a no go. The costs, potential complications, and longevity of lasik aren't very appealing - as someone said, you ever notice how the ones performing the surgery all wear glasses/contacts?

I've worn glasses for two years now and I'm perfectly fine with them, although it probably helps that my vision without them isn't that bad.

You'd think but an ophthalmologist would be more likely to propose it over an optometrist.

If you're getting checked up at, like, a place that specializes in selling glasses (ie America's Best), they'd likely never propose it of their own volition because it would cut into their ability to sell glasses. Which shouldn't matter but business is business.

I'd mention it at your next check up and see what they say/their reaction.

Not everybody is a good candidate for laser eye surgery and there is a process to it, where you get put through a series of tests/measurements. So keep that in mind when going in.

Have had glasses since I was 16. I'm 49. I don't mind glasses at all.

I absolutely would never wear contacts because I would never ever get used to touching my eyeball with my finger all the time. I know they make long term contacts you can sleep with but overall contacts are just too much work and cleaning and bullshit.

If I can't get past the idea of touching my eye with my finger I sure as fuck won't be doing Lasik where I have to sit there like on A Clockwork Orange with my eyes open while they fuck with my eyeball. Hell no. I knew a dude that did that surgery in the military back in like the 80's where they still like cut you with a scalpel. FUCK THAT.

If they could completely put me under and do the surgery where I just wake up and it is over I would consider it. But nah, fuck that. I'm not messing with my eyes. Too much shit can go bad. I'll wear glasses. I legit don't mind them at all.

Glasses. Hate touching my eyes and laser surgery scares me. Glasses are just simple too and now there's so many places to get good looking pairs dirt cheap. Bought four with my new prescription last month and one of them has transition lenses and it was only like $120 for them all. I remember like 15 years ago getting two pairs of basic ass glasses and I paid $100 after insurance for them >_>

The lasers in the eyes part isn't nearly as scary as you think it is.

Honestly regarding LASIK, it's the small incision they do in your cornea that sounds leagues more scary than a laser in your eye.

To be fair, I didn't really leave my room much that summer. So that fan also ran during the daytime sitting inches away from my face. It ran literally 24/7. It ran so much the motor actually burned out and it stopped working. Caused myself a really bad case of dry eyes. I would wake up in the morning with a slight burning sensation in my eyes sometimes. I always thought it was facial oils getting in my eyes, but my eye doctor asked if that was happening and told me it was a symptom of dry eyes.
