You're dealt different resources and items that can be used for progressing in any way you wish, you have to consume resources to maintain your health and keep your stats up, you can level up your character by going to school, studying, going to the gym, training, etc. Permadeath is a thing. It's everything you'd see in a great video games X100. I've found it's helpful to look at life through this perspective. We all love growing and getting better in video games. Why not do the same with your real-life character? See studying and developing a new skill as leveling up your character. See eating better, exercising more, and getting more sleep as making your character stronger. See building up relationships with other players as giving you an advantage in the game world, just as any MMO is easier with a team.
