Metallica is my favorite band of the 80s. Bar none. Their first 4 studio albums from 1983 to 1988 are 4 absolute masterpieces that I can listen to from start to finish and not skip a track. I could give a huge breakdown on where I rank each album, reasons for why and all that but no one here cares. We talk about it a lot in my Gen X group.
I like Maiden. Especially their 80s run with Bruce Dickinson. Their run from 82 to 88 over those 5 albums is awesome and the thing I really love is among die hard Maiden fans is if you ask a favorite you end up with 5 different answers because everyone picks a different album. Thats rare. But for me I 100% choose Metallica every single time. I still regularly play all 4 of those albums from start to finish to this day. Just listened to all 4 within the last 3 weeks. Ill throw on some Maiden here and there but nowhere near the frequency I do Metallica. I am however one of those old school Metallica fans a lot of people hate because I dont really care for them after And Justice For All. I like songs here and there from Black album, Load, and up to Reload but its only ok and only here and there. And from St. Anger I just 100% tuned them out. Basically after 1988 I dont care about them. But from 1983 to 1988, my favorite band of all time. --- PSN ID: sled_dogs76 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite PRO151FD, Yamaha RX-V3900 A/V Receiver, Oppo DV983-H player. Metallica. They dont just release the same thing over and over. I love maiden but everything they make sounds the same. Metallica has done metal, punk-metal, throwback heavy blues like early sabbath, acoustic, orchestra metal, the best damn cover album ever, etc. and I bet you they still have genres they want to tap into. No two Metallica albums sound alike. I understand that pisses most traditionalists and purists off, but I like that they take weird risks that sometimes dont pay off.

The original is a great song but fairly nondescript, a product of its time for sure. Cardle's theatrics and Dani's flair elevated it to levels that were inconceivable to music during the original's time period. It's okay to remake greatness. CoF's version is to the original what Invasion of the Body Snatcher's (1978) is to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). Also there's no need to make light of the butchering of one of the most iconic songs of all time to express your displeasure. Kurt_Russel posted... Hallowed be thy name? Iron Maiden in a land slide and I do really like Metallica but they dont have anything I like after their first five albums. Maidens first seven album run is so damn good that it makes up for their next 4 being mostly bad. And their 6 albums since Bruce and Adrian rejoined have some great songs. They might make a single penny off of a 20 dollar cd, if that. Their story lately is some radio was playing it and they* were miffed how a version not meant for release was already out before the final version of the song was. *- probably more their management/record label (Elektra) got upset, but if what you said is true then its more their record sales. I voted Metallica, never got into Maiden too much, and like others said Metallicas first 4 albums are awesome, I'd even say The Black Album is still damn good, even if it was Metallica wanting to be on mainstream radio more (you wouldn't hire Motley Crue's record producer if you weren't selling out) And I even like some stuff from the Loads.
