I recently cured and smoked a pork belly to make homemade bacon because frankly I am not trust big meat suppliers so I am trying to buy locally farm produced meats etc.
It it turned out better than I expected so I sliced it up and froze some and left some out. It tastes better than store bought bacon in my opinion and above all, I know what's in it so it has no chemical preservatives etc just some spices, salt and brown sugar. --- SpankageBros ... I like bacon as well but I started reading labels on store bought bacon and I wasn't comfortable with what they were adding. There were words on the label I couldn't even pronounce nor did I know what they meant until I looked them up and some of those additives are pretty rotten for human consumption but to each their own. --- SpankageBros ... I also make my own ground hamburger meat, tomato sauce, pasta, pizza dough etc because I'm trying to get away from store bought stuff since I have no idea what's in it. People may not know this but American produced beef and pork is banned in 160 countries because American meat producers use something called "ractopamine" to speed up animal growth and it has been linked to rapid heartbeat, increased aggression and hyperactivity so that's when I stopped buying pork and beef products when I learned about that. Nope I meant people are free to do as they please is all I meant so I have no idea where you got this passive aggressive angle from but the bottom line is I've been paying attention to the foods I eat and some of it to me is very sketchy and who knows what we're consuming. You're still being passive aggressive about how you go about it. You're implying that other people don't equally check what's in their food and you're taking your biases and ignorance about what's in the food and suggesting other people are doing something negative that you're avoiding. While continuing to ignore the fact that there are people who can't, for a variety of reasons, just make their own food from scratch to avoid the contagions you're avoiding. No one is suggesting that you can't be proactive about attempting to avoid things you don't understand or are potentially, if not actually harmful for you. However, it's the way you go about expressing this, and peering down upon people for not doing it the same way as you. There is literally no reason for you to keep beating the dead pig of "to each their own". You've already espoused the sentiment. Continuing to do so just drags it further into the obnoxious. --- She/her ... Copied to Clipboard!

People trying to make "healthy" processed food is downright hilarious to me. Like, it is still a processed food, it isn't any healthier or safer for you because you made it yourself. Just because you can't pronounce something doesn't mean it is bad for you. I know people who can't pronounce broccoli, does that make it unhealthy?
