That would be a dealbreaker for me. There's literally no reason for non-BC in current generation consoles. All I want is a more powerful version of what I already have.

I wouldn't expect easy BC to break until Nintendo adopts x86 like every other console and handheld have.

Because the Ryzen X1 (aka 7840U) is THE handheld chip at the moment and will run circles around even the most modern ARM chip. The Switch used an already long-outdated Tegra chip and the Switch 2 isn't sourcing that much of a better chip.

If anything, RISC-V is the future. But until then, x86 is king and the only way to get a handheld with working EGPU.

If any of the companies released a console that didn't have BC I wouldn't buy it.

Im not read up on the chip your talking about. Im not sure how well it would scale trying to sell a 400 handheld console.

is this something your more likely to see in a steamdeck or a ROG portable? I think theres a big difference in what different companies are trying to do here

I could see the Switch 2 not being 100% backwards compatible. Nintendo inevitably going with another weird gimmick means that some of the games really dependent on the joy-cons might not be very playable (e.g., the Pokemon Let's Go games, Super Mario Party).

But with how much work Nintendo has done to shove like, old WiiU games onto the Switch for a full-priced game, I could easily see Switch 2 not being backwards compatible so Nintendo can sell you BoTW or Super Mario Odyssey again to you for full price. Heck, Nintendo shoved out a touched-up Wii game in Skyward Sword HD as a full priced game last year and got away with it.

Ive been gaming regularly since 1980 and have never cared about BC personally. When I move on to a new system i move on completely. I give away my old system and all the games to kids in the family or kids of friends.

It would be a horrible decision. Especially after releasing so many great ports and remasters on the switch.

Nintendo's choices for hardware are not timely or appropriate for how they intend to use them.

Consoles are trending towards off the shelf parts.

I wouldn't buy it. I've built up a sizable digital library on Switch. That library not carrying forward to the next console is unacceptable in 2023. Plus it would mean Nintendo will milk us with $60 Switch Ports for the foreseeable future.

I'd be mad as hell, but what else am I gonna do?

the steam decks great, i just dont envision nintendo selling at a loss, im pretty sure valve is, or at least have super tight margins

whether they should or shouldnt, if you think they should sell at a loss, you might be right. I just see dont see them doing it

I would hope Nintendo wouldn't be stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot like that. But then, the way they handle their virtual console releases is atrocious... So I could absolutely see this happening.

Switch 2 is now further stillborn. New Aya handhelds will be priced at 300 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
