Very excited for it. Hoping I can manage to see it in theaters. I wonder which stream service it would hit first if I fail to catch it in theaters though. Also wouldnt be surprised if come audience score time it gets bombarded somewhat by the usual triggered snowflake crowd

Was there ever any doubt?

Marvel may be killing the Spider-Man brand in the comics, but they've been nailing it everywhere else. Kind of amazed there isn't a show/animated series to capitalize.

Guess it's because of Sony?

I think the original is on Netflix (or was at some point), so that would probably be it.

Can't say this is surprising at all. Great creative team with really strong vision. The first film was sprawling and intimate at the same time and real treat to watch. The only downside was that involved Gwen Stacy, who should always and forever remain dead. But even that small slight wasn't enough to drag the film down.

I'm afraid Ghost Spider has become far too successful for this to happen anytime soon. She is a Hot Topic brand now.

I enjoyed that a lot. Stunning visuals, and a killer style. It surpassed the original Spider-Verse in its art style and animation which is incredible to think about. I'd complain that it was too long, but even when scenes were slow I enjoyed just looking at it. That said that ending DRAGGED on and on. I already knew it was going to be a two-parter, but geez it took its sweet-ass time getting to that point.

All those upcoming animating films that are trying to ape Spider-verse's 3D/2D hybrid animation style (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wish) have their work cut out for them. This is a new high bar.

Edit: Also, major complaint, how dare they give Peni only like 20 seconds of screentime.

ENDING SPOILER WARNING DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO GO IN BLIND

I wanted to go in as completely blind as possible so I avoided any internet buzz leading up to the screening so... I and at least a good half of my auditorium were completely caught off guard. In retrospect it makes perfect sense. I wasn't keeping track of time because I was too busy watching the stunning visuals to tear my eyes away from the screen, but I will say "the most comic book ending ever" (term coined by my husband, don't steal) came just when I was starting to think a few two many plot threads were starting to fray in a manner that would be impossible to stitch back together in 15-20 minutes without completely rushing it and botching the ending.

I'm still so bloody disappointed and excited at the same time. I'm beyond hyped for Beyond the Spider-Verse, but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't feel my heart sink to the ground when the "To Be Continued" came onto the screen. It's nothing like the end of Infinity War even, and that would be the closest comparison I think. When I saw that one in theaters my auditorium was dead silent for like 3 minutes before people started buzzing about Endgame. With this one before the credits even started to roll people were in shock and asking how they could leave us dangling on a cliff by a single thread like that and I completely agree. How long will I have to wait to see this story concluded!?

I went in similarly blind and I think that probably improved how I felt about it. I also was just beginning to realize there's no way they have enough time left to put a satisfying conclusion together and given the options I prefer getting a whole other movie versus a rushed ending. According to wikipedia they're projecting a March 2024 release so at least we're not waiting another 4 and a half years.

This was my biggest issue with it too. They even showed Earth 42 on the screen in big letters when he got scanned and it still took absolutely forever for them to get to the reveal that he was there. Other than that though almost everything was perfect. March 2024 is soooooo far away.

I too realized about 20 mins before end that there was no way it would end all in one movienor else it would have just been one big mess. Nearly whole theater thought it would have been resolved. Thought it was hilarious that they didn't see it coming. Even had some people say they were so unhapoy they don't wanna see how it ends. Absolutely stoked for when it gets the next part next year.

My actual minor complaint is that he performed waayyy too well against literally every other Spider-Man.

I do agree that they let a couple things breathe just a bit too long at the end.

First it was the fact that the machine was sending him to the wrong universe. The 42 was plain to see on the screen, so much so that I was confused when I realized they were setting up a reveal. When they flashed a massive 42 in the middle of the screen it an immediate "oh no, wrong universe!" moment. They should have just not shown it at all beforehand, they had already set up that it "detects the universe's DNA" so they had done enough to justify that it might send him to the wrong place, and then just flash back to a screen that the audience didn't see in real time.

Second was the reveal that Miles-42 was the Prowler. That whole sequence before he unmasked felt painstakingly slow.

But neither of those things really detracted from an amazing movie experience.

Beautiful looking movie, especially the parts in Gwen's universe.

A nitpick/paradox question though. How was the Indian police captain's averted death "Canon" if it would have been caused by The Spot? He obviously wasn't planned to be there, let alone even exist.

I guess the counter would be that the captain was always "fated" to die at that time, and if The Spot didn't show up something else would instead, but like, if the timeline is that flexible can't it just give the captain a heart attack?

I didn't dwell on that one too much. Sure, the vision was of him getting crushed under a building but that was only cause by Spot. Argument is that he still would have died at that time regardless, as as a rule of rhumb the "Captain" always dies in the line of duty from what I remember. So I don't think a heart attack would have cut it.

Liked this, didn't love it. Visually it's spectacular. I think it just confirms that I'm truly sick of the multiverse as a main concept for a story.

Best parts were anything to do with Miles' parents and Spot, worst parts were anything about Hobie/Gwen teasing and the overall lack of a major villain. The absence of Kingpin and the real human emotions behind his actions is felt.

How did they manage it? They legit made the sequel better than the original, and I felt like the original was near perfect. The Spider-Gwen stuff is absolutely beautiful, like a Robbi Rodriguez cover made animated. At least in palate and tone, if not as much in style. I don't really want to talk story, but I liked it too. But damn, the artwork is on another level. Every. single. moment. Even with all of the clashing styles, it still works. The visuals are just crushingly beautiful.
