Unavoidable, really. People in power are always going to look after their family, friends, and associates. Not fair obviously, but not really worth spending much mental energy on.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

This, the only time it becomes a problem is when a person clearly unqualified to be in that position of power gets slapped on there. It makes it worst when that specific person thinks they got there through hardwork like everyone else.

It's complete bullshit.
There was actually a 30% discount button for family members on the POS where I last was.
I wish I took a picture.

I want to say I'm against it.

But, sure, I'd help out a family member at the expense of someone I didn't know.

So I guess I'm only against it for other people.

If nepotism is "unavoidable" under your ideology, then your ideology is unworkably bad.

At the end of the day, nepotism is actually quite easy to avoid through laws (For government employment) and union/worker empowerment (For private industries). We just don't take the steps necessary to do so because of capitalist ideology demanding that we accept that everyone with wealth and power's failson or faildaughter is going to be our boss.

Not really. Nepositism can certainly be addressed, but at its core nepositism is unavoidable even if it's merely a tiebreaker.

And we're talking about message board posting. It'd be another conversation if we were goverment ministers talking here.

As a recruiter its painful to see how rampant it is. Its starting to make me want to change into a new field altogether. Especially when you see execs hire their friends for millions of dollars when they arent remotely qualified and hardly actually do anything.

Yes. I don't get free anything, not even free donuts.

It kind of is. They can get a college education without having to go into debt to do it. A lot of people don't have that option.

So what's the difference between nepotism and job perks?

Actually, I completely disagree with you here.

If my kid had gotten admitted solely because I work there, THAT would be nepotism.

The free tuition is part of my compensation package, so it is NOT nepotism.

I mean, that situation is not much different than a kid whose parents can afford to pay their tuition for them. It's an advantage that some kids get that others don't based on nothing but the random chance of who their parents happen to be. I'm not telling you how to feel about that, just that that's the system we have.
