Favorite mainline Street Fighter series?

https://opencritic.com/game/14352/street-fighter-6

Coming off a somewhat disappointing Street Fighter V over 8 years ago (it eventually got there though), Street Fighter is finally back for its 6th installment. Yoshinori Ono left Capcom awhile back so this game was created under newer leadership with a desire to put the series back on top as the #1 fighting game series after Tekken stole it from them. If early reviews are to be believe it seems they have succeeded in that mission with a game thats full of content at launch and is approachable for both veterans and newbies with a handful of classic and new control schemes. So far were sitting at a 91 through 41 reviews so far although Im expecting far more to roll in through the night.

TheSixthAxis 10/10
Street Fighter 6 doesn't need recommending to hardcore fighting fans you all already know how incredible it is but do I recommend it for more casual players? Street Fighter 6 has a real sense of community, welcoming all players old and new, teaching new tricks and providing something for those that just want a bit of fun. This is truly a fighting game for everyone.

Gaming Nexus 10/10
Capcom has given us a complete game right out of the box. The single player experiences are enormous. The online experience is perfect. Street Fighter lore is littered in every nook and cranny of this game. There are modes and modes within modes. This is one of the best Street Fighter games in the history of the franchise. If Capcom hurt you in the past, this is their apology. Street Fighter 6 is a new classic that people will be playing for years to come.

Inverse 10/10
Capcoms latest takes everything youd expect from the father of the fighting genre and turns it up to 10. Theres something for everyone here, with no fat or filler to ruin the experience. Street Fighter 6 is the best fighting game experience in a long time, and in the years to come, its impact and legacy could be every bit as massive as Street Fighter 2.

GamingTrend 95/100
Street Fighter 6 takes the series to the next stage with a wildly fun fighting system that emphasizes personal choice. Each mainline Street Fighter tends to define its era of fighting games in some way, and Street Fighter 6 confidently steps forward to that next era. From its battle system to its bevvy of modes such as World Tour, it dives deep into everything that makes fighting games great.

Gamespot 9/10
I can't get enough of Street Fighter 6. It's been my last thought when I go to bed and my first thought when I wake up. It has a beautifully constructed fighting system, but also offers modes that take the game very seriously and, in other cases, not seriously at all. There are some small issues with performance in World Tour, but none of those are enough to derail the overall package. With the releases of new Tekken and Mortal Kombat games, it very much feels like we're in a new golden era for the fighting game genre. Thankfully, Street Fighter 6 steps into the arena looking good and fighting fit.

Press Start 9/10
Street Fighter 6 rights the wrongs of its past with multiple modes for every player and strong battle systems like no other. It invites new players into the fold with well implemented, simpler control schemes, without losing sight of the hardcore player. The World Tour mode won't be for everyone, but Street Fighter 6 stands tall as one of the best fighters Capcom has made.

Worth Playing 9/10
Street Fighter 6 succeeds in its ambition to cram some big things into one fighting game. Battle Hub may be silly, but it has a lot more personality and more to do than most other titles with their own online lobbies. Fighting Ground does a great job of showing off the new roster and improvements to the fighting engine, while placing an equal amount of attention on both offline and online players. World Tour makes for a somewhat nonsensical yet addictive adventure that can serve as a good basis for a full-fledged Street Fighter RPG. All of this is tied together with a presentation that does well in improving what came before it, only with more fidelity and flash. As stated at the beginning of this review, fighting game fans are going to have a good year, and Street Fighter 6 is an excellent component of that.

IGN - 9/10

Street Fighter 6 is the most feature-rich a Street Fighter has ever been at launch, but even beyond that, it's roster of 18 characters is excellent, the new mechanics revitalize the one-on-one fighting formula, and it absolutely nails all of the little things that make for a stellar fighting game.

Back up to a 92 now

Seems like the only complaint is still that the actual story of world tour isn't very good

Which is a shame but at least there's Mortal Kombat 1 in a few months for that

SFV - 75/48%.
Tekken 7 - 82/83%.
Dragon Ball FighterZ - 86/94%.
SSBU - 92/97%.
SF6 - 92/99% currently.

Street Fighter 6's reviews indicate this may be the new fighting game of the generation, but as always that's gonna depend on what the fans do with it. If nothing else though, this looks to be a much stronger start than SFV had.

Can't botch a launch worse than SFV to be honest.

Modern seems like it might be the way to go if you can adjust

You can still do directional inputs without a damage penalty, but you have the special button too for when you want to bust out a quick Super

Don't think about it as a penalty for using the simplified controls. Think of it as a reward for using the classic controls.

There's barely even a difference to begin with.

Modern controls seem like a hassle to use. I understand the worry about 1-button command throws and supers, but realistically, people know how to do those in an instant already.

My honest prediction is that some modern controls player nobody's ever heard of will win an online tournament within the first month or two of release, everyone will wring their hands over it for a week, and then people will start getting good at the game and realize classic gives so much more control over your character it's obviously the best choice once you have the reactions and execution to DP the stupid jumpin on reaction.

as I understand it, with modern controls you don't have access to every normal, you go from 6 buttons in classic to 4 buttons and 1 of those buttons is just for specials

the argument is basically that the pros outweigh the cons. one buttons specials and supers is a big advantage, the damage nerf is almost meaningless, not all of the lost moves are important/useful, theres some modern only option selects, the combos are different but the damage is comparable, maybe some other stuff theres been a lot of Discourse on it

I'll probably wait for the inevitable Super/Ultra version with all the DLC already on it, even if that means I have to wait a few years. I know I don't have time to dedicate to it for a while anyway.

I'll definitely follow the tourney scene though. This does look really good.

I hold myself to my MVC2 standard - just from playing the arcade game so much I was good enough to beat anyone who wasn't actually following the pro meta. Did a tournament at a con using IIRC Silver Samurai, Spiral, and Sentinel, only person I lost to was someone using a Sentinel backed meta team who actually knew how to use Sentinel >.>;

This is why I like Smash the best. I can git gud in spurts and enjoy it, but when I'm on an off phase, it's still a ton of fun to play it a little more wacky like.

But I hear ya. I've been considering SF6 too. If they add Menat, it's a done deal and I'm getting it. But I still might because of Juri.

Trophy/Achievement List is out

https://www.truetrophies.com/game/Street-Fighter-6/trophies

World Tour and Fighting Ground have their own separate set from Battle Hub, which is the main list. So the Platinum doesn't require doing the combo trials.

Though the Win 10 Tournaments sounds like a pain to do, especially if you're not that good at fighting games. And the 20 Avatar Battle wins seem like something you should do ASAP before people figure out cheese strat on avatar builds or in case people don't want to do those at all late in the game's life.
