started college at 9 years old and is graduating from fullerton college. Do you think letting like 11 year olds into college is a good idea?

Almost assuredly was pushed to do this by his parents. Like someone said, cool if its what they wanted, but Id be willing to bet they were coerced by their parents and it sucks that they missed out on childhood at this point.

I would say a kid with that much potential would probably have a horrible time in the normal school system. There is really no place where a genius will properly fit in, too smart for one system, too young to properly participate in another. I've seen a couple stories where they turn out just fine, if relatively boring, so it's not like it's a social death sentence.

He got an amazing head start but they are all associates degrees.

Literally any college student capable of doing a bachelors or a masters could do 5 associates but it would be a really fucking stupid thing to do and a total waste of time.

This, imo. I find it unlikely that the traditional childhood experience would have been suitable for somebody with a brain like this (almost certainly not neurotypical). If you are able to understand and converse with people with adult cognitive skills, forcing somebody to be immersed among children would likely introduce years of ridicule and boredom in an effort to force them into a "normal" life.

yeah this kid probably doesn't have much in common with other 12 year olds, and would just be bored out of his big mind if he was forced to go through school at a regular pace.

I was gonna say I'm sure he still does stuff like a regular kid in some of his free time but he couldn't have had much with 5 degrees

Fake news, colleges only do this for the free publicity. Probably has 5 degrees in underwater basket weaving or something.

Because associates degrees are mostly worthless unless you are transferring or you are doing CC for something related to trade/automotive tech or you are doing classes to become a LEO or paralegal.

Nobody gets 5 associates because it's infinitely more valuable to just get 1 and then transfer for a 4 year degree. This is only a school "record" because no sane person would waste their time doing this. Its like being in the Guinness book of world records for fastest time torching a creme brulee with your feet while blindfolded.

You guys didnt even read the interview with the kid and automatically assume that it's forced by the parents. If you actually read the story, it was the kid's ambition to beat the record held by a fellow student from Fullerton college.
