i will say it wasnt really a huge plot point or anything like that. there was one episode this season dedicated to election night and one of the fallouts is a wisconsin voting location gets firebombed and hundreds of thousands of votes get destroyed, but the succession family's news org calls the election for him anyways in exchange for potential favors with regards to a pending business deal

so it's not like it's exactly the same as 2020. basically, it's an election winner with an asterisk.

and it was also another of several storylines that went nowhere because they had to cram everything into one season when they could've EASILY filled two seasons with plenty of satisfying storylines and character development.
