Conservatives just can't help themselves going mask off. What does taking personal responsibility for heart attacks or stage 4 cancer mean? Just going off and dying? And people on the right think it's the left that wants to enact death panels.

This idiot barely understands the basic concept of accountability.

It's terrible that the UCP seem likely to win. A far right foothold considering how bad Smith is. But it's Alberta so the fact that it's competitive is a miracle.

We can look at this and I see it in health care, Im going to say it: maybe the reason you had a heart attack was because you havent taken care of yourself; youre extremely overweight, you havent managed your congestive heart failure, you havent managed your diabetes, and theres no personal accountability, Petrovic said.

It shouldn't preclude someone from receiving treatment, especially in an emergency, but she's not exactly wrong. That said, I don't trust that a right-winger is saying this for anything near a good reason or that she cares about anyone at all. She more than likely holds other positions that contribute to all the systemic factors that result in people who end up suffering like this. Right-wingers are also obsessed with gutting public institutions and using these people as a means to that end is fucking gross.

Are these like republicans as Canadians?

Personal responsibility, huh? Wouldn't it be terrible if UCP representatives took personal responsibility for anything terrible that befell them. Oh, you're critically injured? Maybe you shouldn't have been in that traffic accident. That's on you. Take better care of yourself.

It should be noted, UCP has previously cut funding for stuff like regular doctors visits, they're not actually proponents of preventative care, they just want to cripple the medical system so they can use the failing healthcare system (that they caused to fail) as an excuse to privatize and move to the American model.

You arent trying hard enough to be healthy

It took medical personal an hour to save the life of a heart attack victim at the ER where I work. They could have saved themselves a lot of time by simply telling the victim that he should have taken personal accountability.

This is exactly what they want to do. Privatizing healthcare doesn't make things better. It only makes the shareholders richer. Anything that requires public buy-in should not be for profit.

Yup, you also see it happening in every province, the conservative parties all keep on "improving" the healthcare system by privatisation creep. They always try to frame it in a positive light and really try to avoid any comparisons to the American healthcare system because it's political suicide in Canada to want to gut the healthcare system even among many of the most staunch conservative voters.

Voting conservative is kinda mind boggling, it's directly against the general voters best interests but people keep doing it. Canada really should be in a position where the 2 largest parties are the Liberals and the NDP.
