I'm really bummed. I used to be able to stream it on twitch via my Sony TV but I've been getting errors since AGDQ where the app won't load any video. PC is in the shop and watching it on my phone sucks.

Watching this the last few days, the runs are way too boring. The technical explanations are just monotonous drivel. Like, sure its neat to hear about how the glitches work. But they all sound like robots.

And when there are multiple couch commentators theres always ONE person who talks over everyone else without letting anyone have input. Its like a WELL ACKSHUALLYYYY constantly.

There's a mix of live and remote runners

The majority of the event has been live with a handful of runners playing from home.

Shatterhand just concluded. A few short runs coming up including lil gator game, Dangun Feveron, Trine Enchanted Edition, N++, and HITMAN 3.

yea i debated popping in, but i dont see the appeal if theyre not doing it in front of you.

that and you had to register like a month in advance or something. though i wonder what would happen if you just walked into the hilton conference room and if they really had any actual gatekeeping going on there.

So I got done with my honeymoon cruise back in 2020 and we landed in Orlando (well, near it), and my wife surprised me that she'd bought us passes for AGDQ2020. So we went to the last day. While I was there I saw at least 5-6 people get caught being there without a pass and being removed, in just one day. So they're definitely checking.

Anyway wtf happened to the schedule

I watched a soccer game, then the finale of Ted Lasso, and was expecting to miss both Zelda and Mario based on the original schedule, and when I tune back in they're only 40 minutes into Zelda?

Super Mario Odyssey is on!, and it's next

yep. another stupid submission. Pepsiman doesnt need to be in the bad games block every year.

the other thing is the overexposure of the same runners every year.

this event needs to push newer runners into the spotlight.

Cons (and this is basically a con) tend to cultivate internal memes...that they proceed to run into the ground

I'm already fucking sick of everybody saying "yes chef" which was kind of funny during the game the bit was designed for. But now they won't fucking stop saying it and even added a "yes chef" incentive to Mario last night

Feels like viewership is down for a variety of reasons.

Combination of probably moving it up a full week from scheduled and I would Hazard a guess at lack of money to donate makes things a bit difficult for people tuning in. Add into that that speedrunning as a whole has blown up so anyone you want to see running a game you probably already know means the allure of gdq has slipped a bit.

Im also sure the actual presentation and show itself has worn thin.

as was said - the runs are very by the book and color by numbers by what the higher ups at GDQ wasnt for the event.

they dont want to risk losing advertisers, so they push a very clean and progressive show.

Ive been watching on and off and non of the streamers I watch are participating and those streamers usually have quite the personality.

It's probably gonna be literal days before it's on YT but that sounds pretty good.
Speedrun races always compel me to cheer for things to go catastrophically wrong.
Like the Luigi's Mansion one where it was over before it started because Chauncey decided to screw one of the runners.

Feels like viewership is down for a variety of reasons.

I think this is a good reason. In 2010 they had like 25 years of games to speed run and they were pulling from a time period where games had more glitches/things to abuse. While there are plenty of games that have come out since then that get run, there are fewer and fewer truly new/novel things each year.

Also it doesn't help that they've started filling out a lot of content throughout the year. I feel like YouTube recommends me a lot of random runs happening off schedule.

I think this has far more of an impact than "the hosts are too cringe-y and safe now". Internet humor has changed a lot since 2010. I don't think there's actually a huge contingent of people who matter who are like "I miss the days when we used to spam 'jailbait' in the chat every time character X was on screen and I will not be watching this year since they got rid of it".

Normally I love GDQ but this year I've been super busy and haven't watched any of it. Maybe I can catch some runs tomorrow and make my donation.

The randomizer especially was fantastic
