Houston father killed trying to buy PlayStation for son's birthday from seller at apartment complex

A Houston man is being remembered on Wednesday night after he was shot in west Houston. We've learned his wife was with him at the time, while he was trying to buy a PlayStation for his 2-year-old son's birthday. FOX 26'S Sherman Desselle spoke with devastated family members.

HOUSTON - A Houston father is being remembered Wednesday night after he was shot near Memorial Park.

Moses Jonathan Gama, a loving husband and father to one toddler and an unborn son, was only 21-years-old when he was shot Sunday afternoon. He drove to The Post Oak at Woodway apartments to meet someone selling a PlayStation console.

Gama's wife was with him at the time as he was trying to buy the PlayStation for his 2-year-old sons birthday.

When he got out of the car and walked over to meet the seller, an unknown number of people tried to rob him. He was shot multiple times.

"It hurts. Knowing that he was murdered. It hurts a lot. Especially since he was young," says Sydney Carrillo, Gama's niece.

The family says his wife didn't see it, but she heard the shots and found her husband on the ground.

Officers responded to the scene where they found Gama suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Gama's family says he was a kind and fun person and also an avid gamer who would buy games like that often.

"The family, my mother had told him several times that you have to be careful with those. Go to a police station, go to a public setting to complete these transactions," said Gama's nephew, Marc Carrillo. "This one just happened to be an unfortunate ending."

Gama's family says the police are working on locating the suspects who they believe were living at that complex. His funeral services were held Wednesday night with his burial services happening on Thursday.

No new details are being released at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

The article didnt seem particularly racist to me, I didnt even really pay attention to the names the first time and had to go back and reread it to see they were probably Hispanic.

I need either you or Trickfinger to explain what the rest of us aren't seeing because I've read the article twice now and I'm genuinely confused on what either of you are trying to say.

I never understood why even the dumbest criminals would use something like Facebook Marketplace to lure potential people to rob/kill at their own residence. The cops probably had an arrest in less than an hour.

It's like Uber drivers who rape women they pick up, do they not stop and think for a minute that the app tracks them at all times?

Shit like this really pisses me off. Luring someone into a trap via online personal postings taking advantage of others.

I disagree as a former Republican and conservative myself. Over time they've made their racism less overt and more "strategic", but it's still quite prevalent.

One of the things I heard a ton on right-wing radio was "black people only vote for Democrats because they give them free money/stuff. It's modern day slavery".

Not only are they completely misrepresenting slavery (slavery was not getting free money or things for maybe showing up to vote every 2-4 years), but they're also asserting that black people are too stupid to figure out which party actually has their interests in mind/benefits them more.

But they repeat it enough, along with other rhetoric, and over time it becomes internalized as just a normal talking point.

Lee Atwater, the father of this strategy, actually has a quote of him explaining how their racist narratives shifted over the decades.

Just because they're not going around dropping n bombs doesn't mean they're not racist on a frequent to daily basis.

But here's the thing about racism, it is learned, so it can be unlearned.

Right, that's kinda what I meant though. Not everyone is walking around seething, as it is internalized. I should add, that's why Fox news and the like are so dangerous is because they try to bait and edge people closer to externalization of that racism.

Doubly tragic since a 2 year old can't even do anything with a PlayStation. Some cheap plushies are more fun at that age.
