Match 2 was way tougher to decide than I initially thought it'd be. Will be happy with either of those songs making it through.

This is definitely one of the better six-packs this contest so far!

Its tough to vote against Subhuman Self, but I just really dig the vibes that Tokyo give me, such a good sound to my ears!

I wasnt expecting to vote SHAKE YA BODY, but I really dig the change-ups to it! Its a lot more fun than I was expecting.

Match 3 was the closest for me, but this version of Banbard has definitely grown on me some more. Let it Die was really good too!

I feel like synth choice in Tokyo is a bit odd for the melody here but it's still a pleasant song. I tend to like the Guilty Gear songs that are more guitar focused a lot, but this isn't really that. Don't really like the percussion in this song and this vocal style is one I'm mostly neutral towards.

Shake ya body is too repetitive for me and these sorts of bass rhythms rarely ever get me invested in a song. The back half of the song is somewhat better but it comes too little too late. I've always like Knight of a Foreign Country a lot. Very high-energy song with a nice violin part. The melody is active and interesting and the backing parts are quite strong as well.

I never saw eye-to-eye with the compositional style of Banbard to begin with, and the instrumentation on this version is a lot worse. Similar to the Guilty Gear song, I'd say I'm neutral-to-positive on the vocals in LET IT DIE, though the good parts like the end hit a lot better. I like the overall package more here though--both the vocals and especially the backing parts are much better. The guitar solo is also solid.

MATCH 1

I mainly like Tokyo for the intro. It has a cool, futuristic sound to it. The rest of it's cool too, but I think the intro's the best part.

Love the Subhuman Self has a strong, driving melody here that I like. Coupled with its metal guitar riffs and drumming, all of this makes for a very cool song.

MATCH 2

I actually really like Shake Ya Body. This feels like more like a "classic" house song than the more pop-inspired type of house songs that I think I'd be more inclined to listen to, but I do enjoy house music generally speaking. I think this song really starts to shine around the 4 minute mark where the piano and guitar loops start to kick in. This is pretty apparent in just about every writeup I do, but I'm someone that cares a lot about having a good melody to latch on to, so these melodic loops bring the song up several notches compared to just having a solid beat to listen to. They're pretty evocative too, which is even better! 8:42 is super good and by far my favorite part of this song. Really love the vocal melody there and all the instruments that come together in the background bring a really exciting and dancey vibe. I also really like that sort of call and response of the softer vocals at 8:50.

Knight of a Foreign Country is an old favorite of mine, and I'm really happy to see it back. It's one of the finalists in my favorites bracket and tore through it pretty easily, only barely being stopped by my champion. It just goes hard from beginning to end. Those opening bagpipes (as a quick aside, hell yeah, bagpipes in hard rock/metal!) just slap you in the face and I love it. Really, everything is great about this: the violins, the guitar, just the overall energy of the song. I first heard this song a little bit before my first year participating in VGMC, VGMC13, and I was immediately hooked on it. When I saw it nominated that year, I knew I had to support it, and seeing it pop up again this year, my reaction wasn't much different. As much as I'd love to give a vote for Shake Ya Body, there's just no way I could not vote Knight of a Foreign Country here. There's few songs in Bracket B I'd take over it, and Shake Ya Body sadly isn't one of them.

MATCH 3

It's nowhere near as good as the original, but the Chroma remix of Banbard is still a pretty decent song. The instrumentation is a big part of what I love about the original, so while the overall melody that I like is still largely preserved, the difference in instrumentation unfortunately brings down my enjoyment. Though, again, I do like it a fair bit for the melody alone.

Let It Die ~Wandervogel~ is a pretty good song as well. Good vocals. The chorus at 0:52 is my favorite part of the song. I think there's just more going on in the song that I enjoy during that part. I feel like I'm enjoying this more than I did going through my favorites bracket, so this match is a lot tougher today, but I still think Banbard (Chroma Remix) is the pick here.
