I was considering supporting Immortal, and I did support Paranoid, so I'm gutted to see them pitted against each other so soon... probably both among my favourite ~30 songs in the contest. It's the sort of match I could flip on, but I doubt I'll have time to do something like that.

Close match in the first matchup! I really like the "comfy" alt rock that Immortal goes with, and I do like the voice for it, even if I do wish I could hear it more clearly instead of the slightly muted version it's presented as. Paranoid has some cool weird synths to it, I wish it were longer overall.

I really like the grand Indian orchestra that Nilah goes with, the vocals add a high-spirited factor to it! Medarot, on the other hand, sounds like a decent Mega Man tune that feels nice, but it doesn't really wow me in any particular way.

Superior Probe is certainly the "moodiest" I've ever heard PSO2 present itself as to me; I like the dissonance enough to imagine the technology-inspired world this is playing for, but at the same time it doesn't do enough for me. World Vanquisher would just feel like another Touhou song if that sick synth didn't crash into the spotlight and help guide the piano to set the stage for the rest of the instrumentation.

I like the instrumentals a bit more than the vocals in Immortal, but it's a great song either way. I really do like that guitar part though. I don't know much about the game, but I definitely didn't expect a song like this from it. There's some neat stuff going on in paranoid, but usually this type of syncopation-heavy electronic style doesn't do much for me.

Nilah is a weird one for me. Good song overall with some neat instrumentation and pretty vocals, but I always feel like the song should be doing more melodically. Beat the Diamonds is a catchy upbeat chiptune. Not sure how I feel about the melody at the beginning but the rest is a lot of fun. Very close match here.

Underworks - Scenery is very good ambient music. It evokes a tense atmosphere while also incorporating all these neat environmental sounds and still managing to make it a reasonable separate listening experience. It's constantly changing also in a way that reminds me of a lot of the Neotokyo tracks. Big fan. Fast rhythm game music with loud percussion and glitchy sound effects has to be my most consistently voted-against genre in these contests. The piano part in World Vanquisher is great and I like the chanting elements as well, but they've got a lot of slack to pick up and just aren't quite up to the task. Honestly this seems like quite a "good" song, but this genre is just a non-starter for me personally.

Nilah is 100% saying Sugoma and Beat the Diamonds' video is called Hardness Ten, clearly an inspired match

PC Building Simulator: IT Expansion - Immortal - 8.5 - The silky smooth vocals combined with the bittersweet chords make this such a beautiful song. I feel like Im cruising along a road next to the sea, the wind whipping through my hair, during a sunset, nostalgic about a time that never happened. Songs like this make me feel that way.

NeverAwake - Paranoid (World7-1) -4 - I like the Energy the synth hits bring to this, but its too hectic for me. This song must be part of that B8core that enjoys the glitchier techno type of music. Its something thats started to grow on me, but i still dont care for a majority of it.

League of Legends - Nilah, the Joy Unbound - 5.5 - I dont really like the slow build up for the first minute. I wish it launched into the chanting like gutteral sounds right away. From there it maintains some energy but kinda lulls back to sleep which is a little disappointing

Medarot 5: Susutake-mura no Tenkousei - Beat the Diamonds - 7.5 - I dont love the soundfont super much, its a bit too harsh for me, but the vibes go hard. It reminds me of a mix of megaman and castlevania, I wouldnt be surprised if some composers were shared between these. Theres a part where the track seems to go double time and really gets hype, and that is cool.

Phantasy Star Online 2 - Superior Probe - Underworks - Scenery - 3.5 - Its neat background music, but this doesnt evoke anything in me. I guess a plus are the weird novel alien like sounds, they break up the monotony but are very weird.

CHUNITHM STAR - World Vanquisher (album extended) - 6 - The end of days is here and this is the song that plays. The sharp street fighter like sounds in the first half are cool. I was surprised how well this was able to transition between fighting type music and something more orchestral and grand.

MATCH 1

Immortal was a really cool discovery! My tastes in VGM often lean very heavily Japanese, but a lot of non-VGM songs I listen to are actually nothing like that and resemble this song more. In fact, indie rock is a bucket that I'd put a lot of songs I really like into, and Immortal is a good example of things I like from this genre. Mainly, the melody, but on top of thatand forgive me if I'm using this word wrongthere's at times a countermelody between the vocals and the guitar that I really like to hear in songs in general. For example, in the chorus at 1:01. Maybe that's not a true example of that term, I don't know, but by this, I mean two overlapping and distinct melodies, which I think that part suffices as an example. This song kind of reminds me of Disappear Always by Wild Nothing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TKEWann5o8) which comes off an album, Nocturne, that I'd say is probably my number one favorite indie rock album.

Paranoid veers too much into dissonant chords/melodies territory for my tastes, unfortunately.

Nilah's pretty solid overall. Most of it is in that territory of "good, but not amazing," but I have to highlight 1:00-1:15 as a big standout because I really dig this fast-paced chanting kind of thing. I guess it appeals to the side of me that likes folky-sounding things.

I like most of Beat the Diamonds, with 0:27-0:53 being a weak point of the song. 0:54 to the loop point is a nice peak for the song.

Superior Probe - Underworks isn't bad, but not really anything that stands out to me about it. I guess atmospherically, it's kind of cool, but I'd prefer something that appeals to me more melodically, but that's just not really the kind of song this is, as far as I can tell. Which is okay, of course! Just not something I get much out of, like I said.

I like the piano in World Vanquisher. Not my ideal kind of rhythm song, but it's pretty cool for what it is and more than enough to pick in this match.
