So I'm doing some exploring after beating my first dungeon and I think I might have went into the wrong cave...

The damn hands were bad enough and took me by surprise, and Riju's avatar was being uncooperative as usual and refused to stay near me, so they killed me. I only managed to kill them the second time around after climbing up a cliff and zapping them a few times with her power. I haven't tried to fight it yet, should I go elsewhere for now? Update: I tried to be extra careful and fight it, but as usual, my fumbling of the controls led to Link eventually turning around instead of flipping and he got spanked on the behind by a sword and died in one hit. I don't know if it's just the fact that I'm using Joy-cons or what, but I still struggle with getting Link to do what I want at times.

Taking him down with only 4 hearts was tough.

Bomb arrows help with the hands.

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about the world because while there's more stuff, there's a lot more of the copy/paste design you see in other open world games. In BotW, this was mostly limited to Koroks and the Test of Strength shrines.

The difference to me is the shrines are fun. I hate open world collectathons that feel like chores, especially when there is no gameplay and it is spelled out exactly where it is making it a job

BotW and TotK do neither. The collectible items are both fun to find because they are all tied to mini challenges (From the obvious shrines to the less obvious spelunking to find the hidden rooms with the frogs) and also because the game doesnt tell you where they are its fun stumbling on them or spotting them from far away while exploring.

I love it so much. I am so over games that are jobs where a 5 year old could follow a list of commands and get all the collectibles

Yeah, it actually wasn't as bad as I thought once I tried a couple of more times; it's fairly easy to bait and parry/dodge if you keep the right amount of distance. I only lost one heart to gloom , and that was due to me getting sloppy/slipping up yet again. I got a really strong sword (over double the amount of power of anything I've found so far) out of it, but it says something about damaging the user over time, so I assume it applies gloom to you if you use it. Oh well. At least it was good practice.

you can fuse that sword to the top of another weapon to get the bonus damage without the downside

probably breaks faster that way, but still its a nice option

I've only completed two dungeons, but just got the master sword

Yeah, the way it works is that every few attacks give you a point of gloom - if you're not fighting a gloom enemy and not underground, then it WILL ungloom during the fight.

Hopefully by Friday night but the game came out during a really bad time for me (in the middle of the current trophy contest)

Wasn't able to do much sky exploring but I've now done all shrines and completed the Sheika Slate

Have you guys heard about the dupe glitch?

You can duplicate just about any item. It's a very simple glitch to perform, the only requirements being two bows. I dupe'd my one diamond a few times and will probably max out my diamond stock before they patch this thing out.

This sounds like the exact sort of thing to not do if you want the game to still be fun

yeah feels like that basically devalues the rewards from so much of the games activities

but also I cant say Im not tempted to dupe some of these rare monster parts that I need to upgrade my outfit

but no, I must resist

I resisted duping stuff for rupees to get my cold resistance gear, and I'm happy I did as it made me explore a bit more

But it's in the back of my mind

I have to be like 50 hours in this game and I still haven't been to Hateno or Kakariko Village. Should probably get on that.

theres a traveling merchant around there who sells 5 and Beedle had a few so I ended up just buying most of them and catching a couple

Yeah since it has not been said if you fuse a minecart to a shield and shield surf, you skate around on the minecart.

Fusing a mine cart to my sword was clearly not the move

not even just the better shield surfing but you can even grind rails wtf

Here I am still hitting an enemy with an ice weapon and then smacking them with my strongest sword because efficiency

I'm not creative enough for the Switch Zeldas =(

Also, is it just me or are arrows way easier to acquire than they were in BotW? I have over 400 and haven't spent a single Rupee. Probably because you make your own elementals with regular arrows?

Unless I'm totally missing something, all it does is shoot out small bits of light that bounce around the room but DON'T DO DAMAGE. And yes I tried against gloomed monsters.

I have over 200 arrows but I'm always going everywhere.

Also beat my first Gleeok earlier. Flame Gleeok. 6 hearts was enough but it was tough

You can take it to the unfuse guy in Tarrey Town and get a star fragment back if you dont break it

I've noticed that if you take a picture of a monster to add to your compendium you can check its entry to see its weaknesses. I did this the first time I fought Gibdos. Not sure if Frost Gleeoks have a weakness you have to hit before you can deal damage, but they might.

Flame Gleeok certainly had a shitload of health though...

I didn't do a whole lot either. It was learning the whole deal with aiming for the heads to knock him down. When he flies up at the end, he takes a big amount of fall damage when you knock him down, so for me it was mainly taking advantage of his fires to fly up then use bullettime to take down his heads with attached stuff to arrows

I had to google how to kill the Gleeoks because they were just kicking my ass.

Turns out all you have to do is stun them with an arrow equipped with a target seeking eye. They fall to the ground then you can go smash.

Oh man I never even thought of using that trick. You do have to shoot each eye twice, right?

Yea the heads have their own HP bars

kept trying it because I was convinced I must be missing something, but so far still seems to be useless

I've actually in general found overworld bosses to be exceedingly easy in this game because of that aforementioned tactic. It works on basically everything I've fought so far.

Hilariously the things that took me the longest to figure out how to consistently fast kill are Battle Talos and that's just because I couldn't figure out how to get up on their platforms reliably to hit their weak point. Forgot I had Ascend...

Nope. I went straight to Lookout Landing. You don't even advance the story or learn anything significant even if you head to Lookout Landing and Hyrule immediately. You also miss out on important abilities avoiding the main story.

Yeah, I still haven't gotten it yet and have unlocked a fair bit of the map and finished the thunder temple. I assume it's unlocked via Robbie's quest? I didn't try to comb over Lookout Landing again after already doing it once before doing Purah's quest, so I missed it and tried to go on to do the main quests that popped up after doing the first tower (i.e. check out the four disturbances). I recently went back to use the tower for a boost and saw that he had a quest marker over him, and he mentioned the camera, so...

Anyway, as I've previously said, I've been for the most part playing without any guides or advice, but it sounds like I'm missing out on things I should have before exploring the rest of the world because of it. Sheesh.

I did go to Lookout Landing but missed the Robbie quest. I went back for it when I got another major side quest that clearly wants you to use the camera.

Yep, thats what it is and exactly what happened to me also.

Robbies stuff isnt available until after you help Josha, which her quest isnt available until after you clear one of the four disturbances. Thats probably why you missed it at first

Ive not cleared a disturbance yet so that cant be it.

Robbie has a first quest given by Josha.

Once you get the main quest to visit the four disturbances from Purah, Josha will give you the quest to hunt down Robbie in the depths.

FINALLY found Hestu

I will say it's disappointing that, 2 dungeons in, they seem to be even more lackluster than Breath of the Wild. The Fire Temple was straight up not fun, though the boss was great

I don't think the camera's super important, though you do get a couple side quests that need it.

I'd definitely disagree. I've done three so far, and I think I'd say they're all better than all the Divine Beasts. IMO:

Goron dungeon - awesome
Gerudo dungeon - quite good
Rito dungeon - solid, mostly on par with the divine beasts

Goron and Rito also have great paths to the dungeon, though BotW had some of that as well (getting to the Zora Divine Beast ruled).

More than a couple, Id say. As well as the compendium, I think each stable has a photo quest (though I havent been to all of them yet) and you need the camera to unlock some glider cloths too.
