I'm gonna leave the first post spoiler free but man... I did not expect to get this emotional watching a Marvel movie.

Like tearing up, borderline crying at certain points.

This might honestly be my favorite Marvel movie, surpassing Iron Man and Avengers: Infinity War, for vastly different reasons. I'm sure re-watching it might change my mind (I definitely had to downgrade Dr. Strange 2 upon rewatch) but it's very hard to not love a movie that stirs strong feelings while watching it.

I'm probably gonna mark spoilers anyway, but they 100% got me on Rocket's fakeout death.

You have Gamora comment about the bypass not loading fast enough, you had Rocket see all his friends again, you have him obtain forgiveness for their deaths, and Lyla tell him it's okay to come and play in the sky with them like he promised. He flat lines and in a world full of fancy tech and future space healing devices, Quill starts doing what feels like the most useless gesture with half-assed chest compressions and I was absolutely convinced he was done.

I teared up several times during the movie but the Rocket fakeout death got me the most. That scene was so incredibly well done and just hit me so hard.

Really really great movie. Probably my favorite Marvel movie as well. Might have to let it sit a bit to see if it stays there. I had a couple small faults with it, but god the highs of the movie are higher than anything else the MCU has done for me. Other than maybe the end of Infinity War.

I mean it's basically cheating to do it with tiny woodland creatures... and a walrus, but everything about this scenes are perfect for not just gathering sympathy for them but also creating such a huge desire for a happy ending for them. They are put in a horrible, god-forsaken position and yet they find ways to play together, have dreams together. You want them so badly to realize them, and instead they're just so coldly taken away. And then you're given a glimpse of what could have been and it just hits so hard that you gotta believe "this is it. This is Rocket finally getting to have that moment with his lost friends."

The biggest quibble I have is that I feel like they kinda glossed over the genocide over an entire society. Like the initial shots of scared animal-people were tough to watch as they're blown to bits, but it feels like it was more telling than showing how it affected the Guardians. They clearly vocalized their displeasure initially but I think I needed more of a visceral action.

It's the best Guardians movie and top tier Marvel for sure. Marvel will regret letting James Gunn get away.

I appreciate how this film seemed to take chances and didn't care about alienating its audience. Like I'm sure if it were any other director they would've said no to this much simulated animal abuse. I appreciate how pet owners will be traumatized perhaps. But also I appreciate how this might give kids nightmares. The MCU has been entirely too safe... the entire time basically, and we finally have one that's willing to push some boundaries.

So looking up Chukwudi Iwuji it seems he's done most of his work in theatre, and isn't super prolific on the screen

That tallies, cause I found his performance to be really...big and theatrical, especially in some of the flashback scenes with Rocket. He was great. Total bastard.

I thought Gamora was great in this. I'm so glad Starlord got called out for his pathetic "give it a chance" speech when this is LITERALLY NOT THE SAME GAMORA. It's not that she doesn't remember, it's that she never experienced it. Her being with the Ravagers makes a lot of sense, and by the end of the film it feels like she's where she was at the beginning of Guardians 1.

What are you calling your teammates dumb idiots for?

To be fair, at the time she believed because Drax and Mantis abandoned the ship that it was left on the exploding planet, meaning Rocket would be dead. I'd be pretty angry too if my teammates didn't do their one job and caused my friend's death.

Just saw it, yea it was pretty great. Some nitpicks here and there, but overall went over well and most importantly they did Rocket justice.

Love that I kind of got that while Starlord is into the 70s/80s music, Rocket's speed is more 90s/2000s with picking Radiohead and Florence + The Machine, and his approval of Britany Spears and Korn. Also movie solidifies that the whole trilogy is really about Rocket and his journey, the rest of them accompany him. Of course obviously it's about the team as a whole but Rocket's the one that gets the full arc.

loved it. Shocked and delighted that it had an unambiguously happy ending. Before it came out, there were leaks saying like half the cast was going to die at one point or another, so ending with everyone alive and jamming to F+tM made me so happy.

GotG3 was so much better on every level, especially use of licensed music. Why was Thor exclusively GnR? Not great!

After the last few MCU movies being not so great (not bad mind), I was ready to wait for Disney+ on this one. Then I saw this topic, and I thought "why make a separate topic when we have the MCU one". I figured they had done something dumb. I needed to know, to the point of going to see it rather than play more Zelda.

One of my favorite MCU movies, maybe even my favorite. Guardians trilogy is such an incredible trilogy, probably over taking LotR as my favorite trilogy.
