I'll second this feeling. Whenever the rankings inevitable end or pause I still wanna be in the know!

Also semi-related, but having seen Guardians 3 today, it made me appreciate Data 7's backstory even more. It hit a lot of the same story beats, though hopefully it never gets as tragic as Rocket's.

I said I'd drop the plan ahead of Coast City so this was the 'finalized' list

Team Justice League takes the Nautalis and some troops to the refueling station to take that down.

Secret Six snap in with Snapper to the beacon already in town and make their way to Lexcorp to cause some havoc, perhaps dropping off some Zatanna dummies along the way. Feel free to take whatever you find interesting from there. They'll snap back out with Snapper as we'll need someone that can safely take more people for Spec Ops.

Spec Ops drive in from West of the city and make their way to Ferris air. Once there we use either Shade or Multi-man to help snap in the troops we will need to liberate the planes. Doctor Light can snap in with us or with the troops as she'll be heading towards Ion towers with us. We'll be needing a jet or two and a soldier piloting one to give us some air support as we make our way to the tower by air. Once there we destroy the batteries and make our way inside taking things from there.

For the jets we can have STRIPE train some soldiers to learn how to pilot if we are lacking. Senator Kalmaku may also be helpful to get people aware of how to take on Ferris Air. Between those two, and perhaps Rosetta assisting with some control simulations we should be good there. Jack I'm delegating to you to inform STRIPE and put out for volunteers to begin training for Coast City.

Aside from that, in the meantime we keep investigating the resources available to us as we give people time to train.

And since then Lush has unknowingly to the team also looped in The Rogues, suggesting they could keep Doctor Light if they help us out.

Cool, the map is a nice touch. How often do you plan missions this extensively?

We planned out the conclusion to Hub City and I guess the conclusion to Leesburg (though that one was more - bring a bunch of people).

Otherwise, we've planned places while doing them (like Korugar) but this is probably the most amount of effort put into a return to somewhere with a specific player-driven plan.

This was, essentially, months of getting input from PC and NPC alike, learning new information, finding new resources, and really we had a handful of leads we still could have used to prepare further. But it's a big plan, it's solid, and it should go well to at the very least extract Zatanna. In game impact it may not be as big as Leesburg, but it definitely has a big time feel to it

Highlights of session...

Kid summon was Kari Limbo, a woman with limited precognition who helped give advantage during combat turns and through other little nods in the session. She was an ex-lover of Guy Gardner.

Saoirse asking her if she had a message for Guy and her saying no - just remember her: before shielding Zatanna from a fatal blow from Doctor Light.

Coming up with fun ways to use her power ("you must control the water" turned into busting up pipes to pour over some goons and freezing the water).

Fighting the Light League: Minerva killed Hard Light Martian Man hunter by impaling him like Libra did the real one. Lush quipped with HL Batman. Minerva gunned for HL Aquaman, lifting him in the air after he called her unworthy. Nikhto tied down WW in bindings the entire time. Saoirse sent HL Kyle Rayner's middle finger construct from her nose back up his.

Summoning the Rogues, and getting to see all of them except Weather Wizard (which is always a joy). They demanded Doctor Light who will be laid outside Libra's doorstep in Keystone City. Exciting future scene incoming.

Female Doctor Light berating Lush for inviting the Rogues and ruining her vengeance, and then getting to talk her down from that - straight up "your revenge comes second. We're here to save Zatanna".

Fighting Doctor Light, which included using a spell to lower his willpower AND his Knowledge stat... Which is just an existential kick in the nuts, forcing him to suffer from lowered intelligence when that's what Zatanna stuck him that way for years. Female Doctor Light protecting Minerva during the battle. Saoirse protecting Lush at one point. Nikhto would have died if we didn't force feed him healing potions before the fight. Saoirse may have cut off his junk. Lush wrapped things up in a painful but fitting callback to encountering his memories back at Shadowcrest. Female Doctor Light melted his hands off.

Returning to ZZ to a crowd, just for Lush to dump Zatanna on the ground and walk away. Zatanna muttering after that she felt pride - she turned Lush into a real person, she claimed. Gut punch to end the session.

Oh, and we also brought back a hooker dressed as Supergirl, which has created some interesting parallels for me, who has had Saoirse dress as Supergirl in the past for similar (but not the same) purposes.

Honorable Mention: Mitchell Hundred

The man who would be #107.

Mitchell Hundred, the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, is a born-and-raised New Yorker, a favorite son his home state and a one-time hero, accidentally - but valiantly - stopping the Smashing Sportsman from ruining opening day, Yankee Stadium, 2001. Mitchell Hundred became the vice president by order of succession when the rest of the presidential cabinet was Equated (or possibly killed) in Washington DC. Since then, hes been a crucial part of the rebuilding process at Challengers Mountain. More recently, Mitchell was injured in an accident with a trap set by Prof Haley during an encounter with Kra the Living Robot, and an unidentified organic circuitry began to form across his face. Since that time, Hundred has demonstrated an innate understanding of electronics that appears to involve verbal communication.

I sat staring at my computer for hours when I remembered that the WildStorm title Ex Machina is, technically speaking, a DC property. Look, you all know me. You know who I am. I love me some politics. I love me some superheroes. What would happen, if, theoretically, someone came along and combined the two into a 60-issue landmark trailblazing comic series with art as drawn by the penciler for Starman? Well, what happens is that Mitchell Hundred, a character whose story was never once connected to the DCU suddenly is.

I just can't help myself, you see, for Mitchell Hundred is one of my top 100 comic characters of all time. But I couldn't cut him wholesale from the tapestry of his own series; that doesn't translate in the way one would hope, given that Mitchell is wholly unique in Ex Machina as a metahuman, and the DCU, will, he's run-of-the-mill. So I thought, in theory, the crux of Mitchell's story should be the most dyed-in-the-wool origin imaginable. Let the party dictate how Hundred develops because, as the story progresses, there will come a point where discussions will be had concerning the safety and security of a meta who can talk to any electronic device in the world serving as the Vice President. You could also read that as a meta who could easily be suckered into a conversation with the Anti-Life Equation or the OMAC virus.

We okay with this guy being a heartbeat away from the saddest position on Earth? Maybe? Maybe not? It's going to be a trip, you see. Mitchell Hundred, the shoo-in for Horne's replacement, should the need arise, and the guy who's been talking to your cell phone about those terrible nudes you've been forwarding your ex.

The next honorable mention also surprisingly went undrafted!

I am probably the only one here that got excited at seeing a reference to the Smashing Sportsman.

The unofficial official comic book mascot of F**kFace! (Its a podcast I love l which is technically under the DC/HBODiscovery umbrella so they decided to pick an obscure DC character to become their mascot)

One of my first comic books was "Crisis on Multiple Earths Vol. 2", which features the (as far as I know) only major appearance of the character.

This is the first time I've seen F**kFace mentioned in the wild lol. I've watched a lot of their supplemental content, but I missed the start of the podcast so I've been putting off starting it because I'm so far behind.

I left out a great moment -

Closing down the fight, Lush hit Light with a "this is for Sue" and Light was like "who?" So Saoirse explained who - Sue Dibny - and he was like "who cares?" And Lush ended the fight with a "we care".

It was cathartic.

Honorable Mention: Hamilton Drew

He's #106!

Hamilton Drew was considered the greatest detective of the western hemisphere during the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, working on cases most would expect to be unsolvable. It was after he contracted with the Pinkertons on a missing persons case that he was captured by the Demon of the Poster and his valet, Merritt, pulled into the realm beyond, where he remained imprisoned until a rescue by Jack Knight. Drew found himself now thrown into the 21st century, where he has taken great pains to adjust to a new mode of living. Set up in his old home in Opal City, Drew became close friends with the Dibnys - Ralph and Sue. After Sues death and Ralphs sudden disappearance soon after, Drew decided to investigate, just as Opal was thrown into the darkness of Simon Culp. Rescued by Checkmate, Drew is now the leader of one of Checkmates field teams, although, to Jack Cross chagrin, not the team with Jack Cross.

If this was a ranking of the most kickass characters, purely based on my gut feelings, Drew would be a top tenner. And I can't even really tell you why. Look, he's HAMILTON DREW, right? You can't help but just love the cerebral, controlled detective. You can't help but be drawn to his measured, carefully applied actions in any situation. He plays the clarinet. He solves crimes. He actually is wearing a bathrobe in every scene. This is the motherfucking guy, people. But we haven't had very many scenes with Drew, so I really can't in good conscience rank Drew higher than here, even if he is HAMILTON DREW. Guys. He's HAMILTON DREW.

Whether he's reining in the undeniable Angel O'Day or he's offering the solutions to mysteries no one asked for, Drew really is one of my favorite NPCs of the campaign, even if his role has been confined to background status most of the campaign.

Honorable Mention time! And this one comes off of the last list...

We didn't draft him because we knew he'd be a high ranking HM *nods*

Hamilton Drew manages to be a great character who makes sense in the canon but is just different enough from the people we deal with to really stick out. He's not a superhero - he's a detective. Not just a detective - he's time displaced. And yet he's still all-in, fully onboard with us. Just a swell, great and focused guy.

One of the better allies we have for sure.

Mitchell is Xander's boy. It's a relationship that can go any which way. Both Xander and Scare are having the thoughts that he probably -shouldn't- be VP at this point, but it's also not something he's ready to bring up.

He's Hamilton Drew! is just such a funny line.

Drew helped paint the picture in Opal and while he doesn't get a lot of focus he's one of those NPCs that can be very valuable when you do give him the time of day

Hamilton Drew is also an integral part to researching who kidnapped us all in the first place, though we have some new info on that we have yet to follow up on.

Oh yeah, we need to see what he thinks about Sasha

The woman who would be #105. And a ranker from last list, so I get to cheat again!

The face of compassion is a relentless, ruthless, murderous psychopath, the killer of Arin Sur, mind manipulated by a ring so that almost nothing of the original individual remains. Nok klek Abin Sur. Welcome to Zatanna 2.0.

Indigo-1, despite only having three sessions under her belt, walked a very interesting narrative arc, a major component of it spearheaded by Pepper. But I would be remiss to say the other PCs didn't play a crucial role in her evolution, from Xander to Data to Bloodfruit. The Indigo Lantern Tribe, of course, are the Lanterns of compassion, though compassion was not the watchword when it came to their creation and induction into this Corps. Instead, a warden, frightened of the most heinous criminals gathered under the roof of the facilities on his prison-planet, designed each Indigo Ring to overwrite the brain, carving out new neural pathways and flooding the old ones with pure resonant compassion as an emotional energy.

However, as the party reeled from this revelation, it was a lone act of forgiveness, inspired by Pepper Spray's words, that would forever change the course of this Corps forever. As Pepper attempted to demonstrate meaningful compassion to Indigo-1 while the rest of her allies fought for their survival around her, Liseth Vok heeded the words of Pepper and offered her mother's killer an embrace of forgiveness. Suddenly, the forced compassion of an unwanted ring was replaced with a rejuvenation to the very power battery of Nok itself, and true, meaningful empathy begin to fill this Corps with a new indigo light.

Indigo-1, as leader of the Indigo Tribe, now faces a critical decision for her people. With all prophecies pointing to a War of Light, what role will this newly revitalized Corps play? Those who gathered on Nok from our playerbase seem to have decided to put their full-throated support behind this Corps in metamorphosis, as well as their somewhat inscrutable leader. There's still complexity to be had there - including the fact that the warden has taken a critical role in the Corps' continued development despite his actions prior.

And some people still are higher on other Corps - like the red.

Should be interesting.

We're back to the list with #25. I wonder who this is...

I need to do an Indigo mission. And blue. And red.

Indigo is interesting - theoretically allies, but there's still an element of sacrifice for them. Not sure how Saoirse stands on them yet.

Indigo was a cool introduction. I don't think they'll be my number one choice in most situations, but we'll see where things go. Them being malleable basically to all the Corps could help a lot

#25 - Darkseid

Darkseid is.

The sum totality of control, the perversion of order as fascism, of totalitarian dictatorship, the inspiration of the most zealous of religions, Darkseid, began life as the child of Yuga Khan and Heggra, the royal family of Apokolips. Reared from birth for rule, the vision of Yuga Khan was one of destruction, and it was imparted to Darkseid. But over time, the idea of apocalypse itself became less appealing to Darkseid, and his own grand vision of the future began to emerge. As Darkseid grew up, the feud between Apokolips and New Genesis consumed his attentions, as with his father before him. But Darkseid tired of the singular feud with one planet filled with those who communed with the Source rather than conquering it. Despite a never-ending stalemate with Highfather, Darkseids ambitions extended far beyond the two planets locked in eternal strife. Over time, Darkseid saw potential in the universe, a universe that existed to serve Darkseids own purpose. Control became Darkseids greatest desire, and standing in his path were the worlds filled with the irksome virtue of free will. Most notable among these were the primitives of Earth, who despite their backwater technology and archaic warriors, found ways time and time again to stand in Darkseids way.

After years of back and forth between Apokolips and New Genesis, Darkseid appears to have ultimately chosen a new tact - to take down New Genesis greatest allies. The Justice League. Earth has taken a startlingly central role in cosmic politics, and Darkseids interest, which began during the Imperiex War in earnest, now have come to fruition. Darkseid, in one fell swoop, has turned the Grid around Earth into a prison, filling it with his carefully cultivated Anti-Life Equation, sprinkling in the legions of Parademons and the rest of his forces. Darkseid now controls Earth from his new palace in New York City, and it is only a matter of time before evil wins. Forever.

What needs to be said about Darkseid? This campaign belongs to Darkseid. His will is that to which the world bends. His words are those spoken by the multitudes of millions around the world. An empire is being erected in his image. And to stop him is to free the universe of the shackles of the Anti-Life Equation, to bring down a god, and to end this chapter of human history.

The campaign may belong to Darkseid, but the server belongs to Iolande.

I do like Darkseid as this force of presence - he's similar to the Spectre, in the sense that the Spectre is ever-present danger. But the Spectre is the one who pops up all the time, like Nemesis in RE3. Darkseid is the man in the high castle.

Curious though - we will see Darkseid soon, for the first time in the campaign. And it may cost up to four allies their lives, at the least.

Ughh Gateway conclusion is going to be something.
