Brennus wanted to fight Cheshire in San Francisco. IIRC I did throw a punch at her. But when she started threatening the lives of our allies he had no choice but to work with her.

He still wasn't happy about it though!

Roz'etta thinks it's reasonable to still work with Cheshire because it's pretty clear that like any of her loyalty to us, she's only trustworthy to the Society as far as they can throw her.

There's a weird sense of trust that comes from knowing you can't trust someone, but nobody else can trust her either.

Also Termina my girl what happened to you!

Yet, somehow, despite her betrayals, her machinations - all of it! - the party still, for some reason, is willing to play ball with the woman who screwed Catman, stole his seed to make a child all in an effort to have an insurance policy for her impending bad acts, and made off like a bandit while forcing the party to fight for its lives more than once. What a gal.

We have had two campaigns worth of info that colors Cheshire in, and Xander would tell you don't trust her farther than you can throw her. To Lush though whatever happened with Catman was personal and none of our business. As far as the one time she has seen Cheshire she saw her as a business woman and thus far has held her end of her bargains. Lush may be leaning on her own past to hope that it secures some type of bond between the two, an honor among thieves of sorts. Cheshire is a very interesting character any way you slice it.

And through two campaigns of seeing what she is capable of my favorite thing she has done in either campaign is greet and bid goodbye to Spirit

this Zatanna extraction plan has been nuts and I've had to try and walk some lines in pitching who to do what when it comes to the plan. I was given the ammunition to at least ask Cold to join when we found out his memories are also inside Misty. Lush coopted him into joining her cause when they were trying to hold back the Dark Bads that ended up being Batman's memories turned into the persona of Vengence. Seeing them work together though I had the line to approach Cold and to entice them to leave Keystone/Central for just a moment to cause some havoc. It's Captain Cold so I'm not confident he will help, or not betray us, but it has made too much sense to me for a while to have to at least extend the invite.

#29 - John Godda' Constantine
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/0/3/AAOJ0pAADcMP.png
Merry bloody Christmas.

John Constantine is a mercenary occult investigator with a checkered history. From his association (and conception) with Swamp Thing and his wife to his love affair with Zatanna, from his haircut with Saoirse to his Christmas quest with Spirit, Constantine has had his fingers almost everywhere in the superhero community. Constantine walks a line between light and darkness, practicing magicks equally as ill as good. Perhaps that makes him the most qualified man to confront the Spectre on his current rampage against the arcane. Too bad that John is happy to sit this war out, enjoying his drinks and trying not to grow a conscience.

Perhaps the most tortured soul in the campaign, we meet John at a time when he's starting to reach his mid-life crisis. John's alienated everyone he's ever loved. Actually, no. That's not true. John's alienated everyone who survived loving him, because John's a bastard who actually cares more than he will ever be willing to admit. His life features a smorgasbord of bad decisions, ranging from mischievous bouts of trickery in the name of self-interest to outright malicious, evil acts that weigh so heavily on his heart that he simply refuses to even give them consideration, so sure is he that to do so would to rip him open. The sad truth is that John perhaps has the most to teach any of our PCs, and yet he fears what that tutelage will do to anyone else. There's probably a piece of him that wants to do, but he's just too much a coward to let that ever happen. John likely is a better executioner of punishment for himself, a warden for his own self-imposed hell, than any devil ever could be.

That said, Constantine's evolving role - a quiet one - is about protecting children these days. Spirit is a sad child without any family at the moment, and I think the nicest thing Constantine could do is provide a little yuletide distraction that also suits his own bizarre, shadowy agenda. Then there's his own kind-of sort-of daughter Tefe Holland, who he keeps on a rotisserie in his own quarters, spending day and night caring for her, bathing her, providing protective spells to her so that the Equation or the Gray are unable to gain a foothold inside of her mind. Constantine even has a rather unique relationship with Saoirse, something of a mentorship. It's clear from the get-go that the pair detest saying anything kind to one another, but Constantine's guilt over Saoirse's poor induction into the realm of the magi seems to have left him with a faint responsibility for her well-being, as much as he'd be loathe to admit it. All of this wraps up into a nice, tidy little package, and although Constantine has faded into the background over time, he remains the early campaign's most flavorful character nonetheless.

#28 comes from the top half of our draft board!

I don't feel like he's passed into the background too much. Constantine, to me, is much like Waller or Chimp or whomever - always around. Frequently recurring. But not necessarily soaking up as much focus as he did early on when there were less options.

As for Saoirse - he's one of my contacts. Met him in week 2, and I was pretty floored at first. It was interesting because that's where we started to figure out just who these characters were together... went from loosely acquainted to bonding due to guilt to accidental rejection to aiming at some sort of redemption...

I think the pair have developed rather keenly. There's something beyond respect there now - and as scared or angry or guilty as John might get, he knows Saoirse is deep in the weeds, and wants to be there. And she knows he's haunted, but she values him a lot, so she's willing to go to him often - drink often - and wants to do what she can to help Tef.

It's been a curious relationship to explore. I think there's always more... but it's going to get weird with Zatanna back. If we bring her back.

#28 - Artemis-2 Dog!
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/6/1/AAJ38fAAEGS5.jpg
I would repost the previous write-up, but I promised Ermine a new one this time.

Artemis-2 hails from the fur of Artemis Dog, the original, cloned fully formed in the laboratories of Wives 'R Us on Hardcore Station. The pup first was encountered as a threat, right smack dab in the middle of the establishment's lobby, where Artemis, during combat, couldn't bring himself to kill his own reflection. Left unconscious, Artemis-2 was eventually given a little bit of mercy at Artemis' encouragement to the Head which runs the Station. On a subsequent return, Artemis tracked down his wayward clone, and after a wild ride, the pair eventually came to an understanding and developed the first faint stirrings of brotherly bonds.

Now, despite their sprawling separation between stars, Artemis and Artemis-2 send each other messages constantly, relying on one another in a way that really only dogs can. Even if their missives rely primarily on pawprints alone at times, there is a clear connection that transcends simply cloning technology and a shared love for food and hats.

The pair would reunite in our Christmas sessions, bringing down the evil Admiral Nixonnoxin (who is, as you might expect, a dangerous former President leading Lady Styx's forces in the Hardcore Station space sector). A unique mechanic for Artemis-2 - if you roll higher than he does on a dice, he will take your roll and force you to roll again. He's just excited to help, okay?

Artemis-2 has quickly slipped into my reliable voice committee, a personality that I happily troll around with outside of session. His constant harrassment of the normally staid, mature Roz'etta has proven a delight, and I think there are many players who have expressed excitement to get more screentime with Artemis-2 themselves. For me, the character is a bit of a caricature of Artemis Dog the original, though he has some deep-seated, shared weaknesses that Artemis himself also is dealing with. The two both wrestle often with both the concept of love - something that animals their age struggle with in that they develop rapidly and yet still remain remarkably immature in that regard. They also both have had to deal with hard truths, such as their place in the grander scope of the cosmos. Artemis-2 in particular finds that his identity is one that is difficult to pin down. He's come to rely on tropes from Artemis One's life - he's sought out his own hat, for example. He wanted a Patch of his own, so he's been bribing a tiny teleporter alien named Glitch to be his friend. And Artemis-2, summoning up the history of campaign 1, went out of his way to take up a job as Deputy Dog for Checkpoint Justice on Hardcore Station, just so he could show off his badge.

While not a completely identical clone (it's clear that Artemis-2's knowledge of being a clone has affected him in tremendous ways, some as yet unseen), Artemis-2 falls into the vain of the doppelgangers which exist throughout the campaign - Ros, Foal Fruntell, and... well, there's another one already in the campaign, but we'll talk more about that when that news is revealed. Maybe on a future list. In any event, the reason for being is to witness how the characters react to themselves, relate to themselves, develop from spending time with something similar to who they are. In each case, to a man, these doppelgangers have develop close bonds with the player character of choice, and what's more, have evolved because of their presence. It's a fascinating thing.

I'm ranked dog! Haha. Rosetta has zero points.

#27 - Vicki Vale
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/4/5/AAcguBAADmjZ.jpg
It's Hate on Varra Day! Brennus loves this.

Vicki Vale is a renowned photojournalist from Gotham City who was for years romantically linked with Bruce Wayne. After the disappearance of Batman and the subsequent events of A-Day, Vale chose to put her own survival at the forefront - after all, she couldnt let the secret of Batmans identity fall into the wrong hands. Disguising herself as an Equated, Vale served as a double agent, a teacher at the Bristol Township reeducation center, before escaping during a breakout spearheaded by Batgirl, and no one else at all. Vale has since arrived at Zonn Zorr, where she has taken it upon herself to once again serve as the badgering, irksome journalist who takes down any threat to her safety, such as Lush. Vale is considered by many to be very polite.

Vicki Vale is more important to the campaign than almost any other character on this list simply because she plays the role of the singular medium to the outside world. Vicki's articles are an opportunity to tell the tales that can't be told elsewhere. RP time is always focused on the personal, and sessions are focused on actions and accomplishments. Rumination is the stuff that lays behind it all, contemplation eschewed in the favor of pressing forward. Vicki, to that end, provides me a singular opportunity to explore the sorts of things otherwise taken for granted - infrastructure crumbling around the world, lives lost, the smaller, forgotten tales of adventure that percolate while the party churns larger pots. The Gazette is one of my favorite outlets for downtime campaign creativity - it allows me so much latitude to explore the goings-on around the planet, but always from the perspective of Gotham's most precocious reporter. And sometimes, it reveals more about Vicki than the world at large, which can be quite enjoyable.

But Vicki is also someone who holds a position to the bitter end. In the first campaign, she was a nuisance; in this campaign, she is a rabble-rouser, a revolutionary, a voice for the billions whose voices have been lost. And, more importantly, her entire worldview has changed, simply due to the knowledge that Batman is Batman. In a similar manner, Vicki's position on Varra del Luca has been a constant from the very get-go, and now, as Brennus develops an affinity for Vicki, he seems to see the foibles and iniquities of his mother's lifestyle as an assassin for what they are - a reason he's dealt with certain troubles his whole life. As Varra's greatest enemy quickly becomes a confidante to Brennus, the complexity of their relationship has grown fascinating. Brennus may have started to trust Vicki, but not implicitly - he did reveal that Vicki wanted to bug ZZ headquarters to the Queen herself. Certainly he doesn't trust her in the same way Parch does!

As the campaign continues, I hope that Vicki continues to play a crucial, opinionated and outspoken role central to the growth of Z'onn Z'orr.

#26 - last to fall out of the top quarter! And a top-half pick.

#26 - Misty Kilgore
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/9/7/AAOJ0pAADbmp.png
Hey, babe. HUNGRY FOR RANKING. Misty is Sizematic, dude, a total SQUAWK, capable of pretty much anything, especially at 12:43 p.m. for 116 seconds.

A refugee found inside of the walls of Shadowcrest, Misty claims to have sought out Zatanna for protection, but with a mind as put together as a fallen Jenga tower, its any guess as to why. Sealed within the walls of Shadowcrest, Misty was forced to subsist on junk food and the waters of a font filled with Zatannas memories. As misty supped upon these stray thoughts, her own mind became a jangled mishmash of the personalities of four bakers dozens worth of supervillains. These included everyone from Catwoman to Cynthia Redford herself. But as Checkmate agents have delved into Mistys fractured psyche, its been revealed that this quenching of Mistys thirst may have been entirely intentional - in order to protect Misty from the revelation that her mother is none other than Darkseids coming bride, Gloriana Tenebrae, Zatanna appears to have scattered Mistys thoughts so that she may not be found and brought back to one of the most powerful fae creatures to ever exist. Instead, the corridors of Mistys imagination are clogged with thoughts not her own, each impulse a relic of those beings who now take refuge within the synapses of one of the most valuable girls on Earth. Misty has since begun to take on their various personalities at inopportune times - ranging from Doctor Light to Catwoman to Lush. The latter of whom has discovered that her memories are searching for a way out of Misty.

The mystery of Misty - or the Mistery - is, in my mind, one of the most crucial of the campaign. A key component of the grander Zatanna story arc, Misty contains multitudes, in the words of Walt Whitman. And those multitudes include herself, her original Misty-ness, something that has yet to be explored too terribly much. Lush has finally reached something resembling the Misty beneath, but I think what really will put Misty over the top is for her to begin interacting with the rest of the PCs. I think the fact that Misty is filled with so many demons of their past means that Misty can provide a certain amount of resolution to each of them. Slowly, in fact, some of them are beginning to escape, such as Doom Patrol Trish and Vengeance, the part of Batman stunningly discovered to have been washed away by Zatanna on the day of the fateful Doctor Light vote. The problem is that Misty can't harness what's inside of her - and perhaps maybe she doesn't want to. There is a greater question as to what Misty wants, what Misty needs, underneath the cacophony that bubbles just beneath the surface. But when Pandora's Box was opened, all of the sins of humanity escaped, leaving only hope underneath. Are you ready to let an inescapable evil escape, in order to rescue the wishes of a forgotten girl?

We're back to honorable mentions for the second-to-last batch. This one was drafted!

Misty's spot in the campaign has been so fun to explore. Having other PCs interact with her has been a goal for a bit, but one that I have not invested the time to help get going. Saoirse spends time with Misty as it is. she was encouraged to see some science from Pepper and really enjoyed it. I need to have her sit in on one of Spirit's lessons too. My favorite non Lush relationship though is Brennus as the Reverse Flash inside Misty cannot stand Brennus and has caused him to punch Misty in the past

Hey

Ari 100% deserved it and I think you're the only person who would disagree with that!

Brennus needs to learn to resolve problems and express feelings with his words.

The realization that Vicky Vale is who I combined with Stargirl incorrectly in my ranking topic, with the whole going undercover in a school. Poor Vicky should have been higher.

A unique mechanic for Artemis-2 - if you roll higher than he does on a dice, he will take your roll and force you to roll again. He's just excited to help, okay?
That is hilarious and potentially infuriating for the players.

Honorable Mention: Mordru
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/4/1/AAUHRBAAETId.jpg
The man who would be #108. And once again, I'm cheating from the last list! We're almost out of these cribbed write-ups...

Mordru is a Lord of Chaos. Hell, maybe even THE Lord of Chaos. Magic bends to his will, reality submits to his whim. Mordru has killed Doctor Fates before. Plural. He's nearly destroyed the entire Justice Society twice. He's plunged the planet into darkness, and it was only through the combined efforts of sixty-odd heroes and the magic of Arion (the real one) that Mordru was stopped. He was imprisoned in a Zodiac Crystal, left to languish until the end of his days.

Then, the Eighth Age of Magic happened, and all of that went out the window. A team of Checkmate agents found his crystal prison underneath the lair of Area 51. After taunting them, whispering to them and threatening them, Mordru released himself and vowed to hunt down the Checkmate team and destroy them - but first, he has unfinished business to attend to.

It's no secret Mordru is one of my all-time favorite DC villains. This guy is everywhere and every time in DC history. You can, at best, delay his inevitability, stall him while you search desperately for another way to stall him so you can hunt another way... it's an endless spiral of desperation in the pursuit of survival. But Mordru's power comes not just from his magic, but his lack of restraint. He will go for your throat - he has no compunctions, no scruples, no sense of decorum. He just thirsts for power, perhaps more than any other being. And Mordru has enough of it already that he could conceivably make plays that put the party's plans in complete jeopardy. He's a big enough player that it's the Spectre, Eclipso and Mordru who are mentioned as the greatest threats to the magical community. Hell, Mordru might even worm his way into the position of the Spectre's host. Can you imagine that? Just one misstep and the Wrath of God becomes the trappings of a madman. Then we're all screwed.

What I love most about Mordru is that he tops himself, over and over. The sneering smile hides great, perhaps unfathomable, wisdom. And he uses it not to help but to crush you beneath the ponderous might of his intimidating grin. Mordru met the party on the Story Line, and he KNEW they were moving through time via the Story Line. He has that kind of sixth sense, that kind of innate magical understanding. He laughed it off. He laughed off the ability to alter reality via storytelling as BENEATH HIM.

God, I love Mordru. I'm generally torn on who I want to see win between the party and the Dread Lord of the Sorcerer's World. Leaning Mordru, I think? We'll let the party put up their argument first, I suppose.

Another day, another Honorable Mention. Maybe I should have just done two hundred entries. Another hundred honorable mentions, maybe.

'Scarlet ranks His 150th to 250th favorite characters from the campaign' sure would be a thing.

As for Mordru, he figured out we were o the storyline by smelling the magic on Roz'etta. It was more than a little creepy.
