one episode deep

it's always a tough sell getting me invested in the dramatic arcs of this show, especially for characters like sally and gene and fuches that i don't care about

that said the execution is often great so i'm still totally on board

dexter was definitely supposed to go down this way, but lol

It's really impressive how bill hader just does not give a fuck about conventional storytelling and is just making what he wants

I'm super excited for whatever his next project is. In all the interviews I've seen of him, he still gives off a complete "I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm being carried by everyone around me" vibe, even though this show has clearly become his singular vision over the past two(?) seasons.

I want him to direct some weird horror movie next with the same tone as something like Barbarian.

after a few minutes of the episode I thought it would be cool if they go full no Barry for the ep, and I was right. That was cool

the Dave and Busters scene in this episode was so fucking funny

And then so much of the rest of it was so dark, like all those dudes falling into the sand was genuinely horrifying

and then it ended and what is even going on now?

wild show. I wish it would maybe make a a little less uncomfortably tense all the time, because I feel like almost every scene Im just waiting for something fucked up to suddenly occur (in the sand silo I was convinced something was gonna go wrong while they were doing their selfie, turned out my spidey sense was just a little ahead of the show).

i listen to big picture for movies i watch, which are pretty dang few. but i also listened to a lot of their awards season coverage this year because that does interest me even if i don't wind up watching the movies

I just don't know hoe much of this I believe.

There's the possibility all of this is just fake. Moss being so careless in securing barry and leaving him by himself for hours seems so unrealistic given that he has been so "super cop" for two seasons.

There's also the possibility it's all real and it's going to try and tie everything together in 30 minutes next Sunday, which I just don't see happening

I'm kind of dreading the finale because I don't see a way it can be satisfactory. But hey, if there's one show that can do it... it's Barry

Yeah so I think I really dislike the time jump now that it's all said and done.

Not a terrible ending, but after how utterly fantastic S2 and 3 especially were, this season just fell a little flat for me.

with that said this finale did have some touching moments and some hilarious stuff as I would expect, even in the finale

Im disappointed they didnmt acually get DDL or Wahlberg (or any recognizable actor) for the movie at the end

i think that finale was probably good but I just also watched the Succession finale, and thats a tough act to follow

It should've ended with the season 3 finale I think. And I say that despite season 4 having some truly golden episodes and moments, especially episode 4.

The worst thing I can say is that the finale was merely "good". I think as an exploration of Barry's themes, with characters unable to change and the banality and pointlessness of violence, it mostly hit the mark, but in terms of actual plot, some hard to swallow turns like Gene being suddenly framed so easily and the showdown between Fuches and Hank felt strangely rushed to me.

I am conflicted because yes I do actually think the last bit with the movie is a well-done capstone on the show. Pitch-perfect commentary on how we consume violence and how media colors our perception of real life stories.
