Jack in to these games!

Kind of a catchup month for me although there is a matter of 250 hours worth of Mega Man content dropping in one package

Dead Island 2

lol there's no way this is real is it?

I haven't seen this game brought up once since the Jack Black trailer, how is it coming out now?

I might get Advance Wars I guess but it feels weird to spend money on it when it looks worse than the GBA games. And Meet Your Maker is on PS+ for April but I doubt I'll play it.

Otherwise nothing for me I think!

I have like a negative desire for Dead Island 2 after suffering through the pain of a solo Xian run in Dead Island 1. And we don't talk about Riptide.

I've never played a Battle Network game, so that's most interesting for me.

GrimGrimoire and Advance Wars are the main ones I'm interested in. Too bad they're old games, but I've never played them, so they're new to me.

Honkai seems like it'd be fun, but it's a live service game (right?), so that's a massive strike against it.

Wonder if any of the MMBN games are worth playing...

Trinity Trigger

I feel like I've mostly heard bad things about this (since it originally came out last year)? Is there a reason to look forward to it?

There is also the possibility of the final fantasy pixel remasters releasing in April on consoles but square enix is being coy about it and based on when they're going to be charging for the physical copies on their store my guess it's going to be the 1st week of May

preordered GrimGrimoire OnceMore already and am glad it made the poll. the original would've probably still been in my top 10 games ever, but since trying the demo out I'm not sure if i can even go back. It still has plenty of quirks present that still define its identity but the qol improvements are huge and game-changing, and all for the better. my flatmate's been playing hogwarts legacy for a dangerous amount of hours lately but despite his glowing endorsement, I can safely say that this will be the harry potter-esque game i'll be throwing all my time at this year (even if i have to go through it once more, and once more again...)

still haven't preordered Anosuba HD (which got delayed from march to the 20th of next month) but 100% will by the time it launches. I want the limited edition asap

Genshin killer Honkai 4 is also on my radar because sure

i forget if there was anything else i was waiting for that much really. mmbn collection and AW1+2 hd are nice, as is fairy fencer f 2's release i guess, but i won't be picking any of them up any time soon. i guess super alloy ranger exiting early access is something? oh yeah, i also opted to wait until melon journey 2's nz release on switch, which is also in april lol

speaking of games i mentioned this month btw, besides paranormasight, ghostpia also dropped last week... but only on the japanese eshop (it's already fully translated though), and i think it's also probably locked into my top 10 games for the year for sure. it may just be a port of an existing game, and a browser-based VN at that, but it's also one of the most ambitious ports i've seen for an obviously indie work, with everything being reanimated and adding so many extra features and scenes to the point that it only barely doesn't quite count as a full on remake

anyway that's maybe getting a global release (and steam version) next month (there isn't a set date besides "Q2" now but considering it's already like, out in multiple languages and the only cause of the delay is PQube picking it up at basically the last minute, I'd like to assume it will be april...). i wanted to do a standalone shill topic for it like i did with paranormasight but nobody's been reviewing it due to the current limited release sadly, so this post will have to suffice instead lol

I will probably play Benedict Fox if it reviews well, I've been cautiously optimistic about that one. Thanks for including it!

I'll likely play the Wars at some point too, both Star and Advance, but not right away. MMBN is a maybe in the distant future. And if GrimGrimoire is half as good as 13 Sentinels that might be worth a look. Good month!

Also going to Capcom Cafe for a EXE themed meals
Sadly it comes out 4 days after I land so I can't play it during the flight >_>

Man I absolutely loved Fallen Order and think it's quite underrated. There's just not many 3D games that have that Metroid sense of exploration, and it's so up my alley.

Metroid Prime Remastered, RE4 Remake, Jedi Survivor, Tears of the Kingdom... All back to back. This has already been one of my favorite years ever in gaming.

Amusingly both Advance wars and Battle network were two of my favorite games when I was a teenager.

But for that reason I don't really have any desire to replay them. Both I put in hundreds of hours

ah shoot i knew i was forgetting about some other releases

probably also getting the Dokapon Kingdom remaster and Volcano Princess (nice-looking raising sim hybrid that's been on my radar since the last indie live expo) this month.

also can add all of these to the maybe list:
Passpartout 2
Process of Elimination (i forgot that was releasing at the same time as grimgrimoire)
Rusted Moss (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iteSJWwSaAg hook-based metroidvania with a cool art style)
Dance of Cards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBQY5lqx0u4 high stakes poker rpg with another neat, more minimalist style reminiscent of mother games imo)
Beyond the Long Night (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqP3JvOCMcw just a nice twin stick roguelike with nice worldbuilding, art (again) and soundtrack. honestly it's kind of like a celeste reskin of isaac)
Arcana of Paradise: The Tower (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQuYg9sr1Uc that survival rpg (card) roguelike with kids on a tower beating things up for bread or something)
Labyrinth of Zangetsu (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fJ6DeJxD5w yokai-themed standard dungeon crawler)
Afterimage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGlgjV5IvAw just a very nice looking indie metroidvania. devs previously did the gujian series which i guess were pretty popular in china but i don't really know much about them)
Varney Lake (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkhydDB3Ob4 very retro adventure game probably linked to last year's Mothmen 1966 which i still need to pick up tbh)
and Complex Loop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlA4kEeF9KM doujin adventure game inspired by Gnosia with a surprisingly legit voice cast which is admittedly already out but coming to steam some time this month)

Here's Cassette Beasts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sCJdHuQ7_Y -- doesn't really do the game too much justice, but it's basically Pokemon where, in battle, you play as the monsters. Overworld had some light 3-D platforming, reminding me overall of Crystal Project, although you unlock at least a few movement abilities.

Quick question for anyone who played GrimGrimoire.

I played the demo and it was enjoyable enough, but does the story ever open up. Ie do you get any agency outside the individual missions or is it entirely linear?

it is linear, albeit with bonus missions without plot attached to them. not sure if oncemore adds anything more to that or not (i mean i'm confident they have a bunch more bonus missions at least but not sure if there's anything notable beyond that). they redubbed the game in japanese so like, one might think that maybe they had more cutscenes but the english dub seems unchanged so idk. at the very least there is the whole skill tree stuff that makes it technically a lot more open in terms of progression

also on a separate note i forgot that mindhack (in early access) was also this month so i'm picking that up now
