All the information you learn is on the internet. Kids just need a place to go when their parents are working so they don't set the house on fire. They can have social interactions through rec sports and stuff.

Homeschooling should be illegal. It's harmful to both the child's education and socialization skills.

children can just get vocational training from somewhere else, same reason why college is unnessary.

Depends who does the homeschooling. You can socialize outside of school on a baseball team or something.

Why though? Teachers have to do their lesson live which leads to inefficiency and mistakes. And they have to spend time answering questions of other students that you don't need help with. If you just sit at home and watch an edited video you'll get the most efficient educational experience.

Not everything in life is the most "effective" when efficiency is the main priority

A lot of shitty houseparents do view school as babysitting so they can fuck around and pretend being a houseparent is a lot of work despite being home alone for seven hours a day

The whole thing is partly based on the term "babysitting" being used in a negative connotation. Like yes, people tend to think it's best for these kids to learn and interact in a mainly in a group setting rather than individually.

And yes, society has worked school life and adult life around each other*, in the sense that parents can work while kids are at school. And that's fine... It's not necessarilybad.

But yes, if parents want to homeschool and it works for their family, let them go ahead. People who homeschool have ways of involving their kids socially into groups and stuff like that.

* To an extent. It still takes work for parents to revolve work schedules around school schedules.

Tbh if the country weren't run by 80 year olds I think the pandemic would have been a wake up call to permanently keep at least high schoolers going into the classroom at most twice a week. There's really no reason to ever have 1000 people in a single building just to learn things that can be learned remotely.

No, teaching is important. Self teaching is a skill you learn after many years of learning, and usually some amount of expertise in the thing you want to self teach.

You're operating on the assumption that the parent(s) will sign their kid(s) up for any sports.

My aunt homeschooled my 2 cousins and they weren't in any sports. They were just at home most of the time. So not only are their social skills lacking, but they actually resent her, because they never got to have friends growing up, or do any of the social activities that you'd do at school. No school dances, no field trips, no grad night/graduation party, etc. Just helicopter parenting 24/7.

So no, school does more than just babysit students.

Its very clear that TC has no understanding of how children learn.

If he had taught a single lesson in a primary school he wouldnt be making any of these statements.

Nobody is saying that people cant possibly learn at home. They can, which is why schools set homework.

However, you will not learn anywhere near as effectively without the correct environment and the guidance of a trained professional.
