When have you ever heard anyone say "straight white men should not be allowed to own guns but everyone else should," except as a hypothetical counterpoint to people that are trying to pretend they have a legitimate statistical basis for saying that about whichever minority is currently in the news for committing a mass shooting (in which case it's very obviously meant to illustrate how ridiculous the idea is because the straight white men suggesting raising the idea would never consider disarming themselves, despite what actual statistics say)? Or are you so detached from the world that you don't think there's a real chance that bills to disarm trans people could actually pass (bearing in mind that bills to jail doctors for practicing gender-affirming care, take children away from parents that get them gender-affirming care, and give teachers carte blanche to pull down kids' pants to make sure they're on the right sports team have already passed)? There's a very real difference between "most of the evil people in our current society are straight white men" and "most straight white men are evil," which I'm not sure you understand. The former is indeed a common refrain, given that it pretty accurately assesses the world we live in. Very few people are actually saying the latter, except as a time-saving measure in contexts where everybody understands that they actually mean the former. --- This is my signature. It may not be that popular in the strict numbers sense, but plenty of conservative politicians are virtue signalling by pushing anti-trans legislation and rhetoric for the sake of attracting votes from the more fervent transphobes. Trans people are absolutely under attack in America, even if most conservative voters don't actually care about attacking them, which is why the pushback against such rhetoric is so strong. --- This is my signature.
