I can't imagine not liking the Aerith chapter after how great the Tifa one was! They did a spectacular job fleshing out her backstory

Apparently it was written by the main scenario writer for ff7 so...makes sense

How far/much of the past is covered? Pre-Nibelheim, post-Nibelheim, Zangan training? How she started training with Zangan and the five-year Nibelheim to FF7 time gap is something I was always interested in, like the game never explicitly tells us how Tifa and Barret (or Tifa and Avalanche generally?) crossed paths.

Aerith's past feels a lot less mysterious, but you reminded me that I did recently hear about a post-FF7 story where Aerith is traversing the lifestream and encountering characters from the game, though I don't know how "official" that story is... "Girl Who Travels the Lifestream" or something like that? Don't know if that's even available in English though.

it covers from her as a small child in Nibelheim from like 8yo to all the way up to joining Avalanche and everything in between

I never read that but to give some perspective tifas chapter is 195 pages so it's pretty detailed

ok I just remembered I have 2 gift cards for a canadian bookstore chain which I've been sitting on & never used for years now, so I may just burn it on this book!!!

....On The Way to a Smile also available from that store so may just pick them both up, and now I need to find that 2nd gift card, damn!

Halfway through the Aerith chapter, the backstory is really nice but the brief snippets of modern day tifa and aerith talking is honestly the most charming part

I liked tifas chapter a lil more than aeriths. i felt like they wrote aerith as way too mature even when she was a child. Whenever a scene from the games happened in her backstory it felt like she got 10 years younger immediately lol. Also I'm sad they didn't talk about Zack at all.
