I know we all want to immediately jump on her for this... but you really should try to at least understand the traditions and customs of the culture you are traveling to abide by. Those Europeans are really acting like how people say Americans behave internationally.

If she lives in an area where they are dropping 700 on just a few hours out like it is nothing then I would assume her rent is incredibly overpriced and 70 dollars isn't going to help much towards paying it. Time to hit up the special websights for her I guess.

I don't know what HOURS is, but even if it was 3 hours that was 23 per hour and if it was 4 about 18 an hour. That's not too bad for hourly pay.

Have you ever worked in a restaurant? Because when I was in highschool, I know the waiters/waitresses where I worked damn sure made twice as much as the cooks/dishwashers in the back. And then didn't claim all of it come tax time. I have a hard time feeling empathy for people living off of tips. Unless you're just bad at your job or in a real shitty neighborhood, I don't buy a single person working in a tipping industry acting like they're underpaid compared to so many similar skilled jobs.

Tipping is weird. You're not entitled to any tips, but it's also expected?

Employers should ideally just pay their workers a real hourly rate. But we're so far down the rabbit hole that this is the norm. Kind of stupid, really.

I've been working for tips my whole life, I'm long past the point of complaining over a stiff. For every table I shrug off from an airball I make better on the next 3 with my attitude.

Owners obviously don't want to pay more money for wages and instead like passing that cost on to the customers

Tipping culture sucks but most people shitting on her don't realize how it's structured. A lot of places will have her tip out the bar, kitchen and house so that 10% goes away quickly. Poor tipping can lead to the person losing money. The system is completely fucked.

To be clear here, she was probably paid 2.50 an hour for the privilege of serving these people who can pay $700 for dinner. Another $70 to make it a proper tip percentage is not going to kill them. I know. It sounds like a lot of money for a tip. But that's what happens you spend nearly a k on dinner. Pro tip; them spending more means she put more work in and deserves more money rather than less.

Preach, brother. Just discussed 2022 taxes with a waitress at the diner where I work and she claimed nearly as much as me (41k to 46k) working 3 days a week instead of 5-6, and it's not exactly a secret that she claims fuck all for cash tips.
