i will not be linking to this game for obvious reasons but currently steam has let a game that is is a dating sim visual novel that claims to help fill out your tax returns

i know i should not have to say this BUT DO NOT GIVE YOUR SSN TO A VIDEO GAME

if a hot anime waifu asks for your SSN dont give it to her

im reasonable confidant that no one here would be dumb enough to do it but i saw this scam and figured id raise awareness just incase

again do not give your tax return information to a video game

Just block it in your firewall and play it on a sandboxed VM or throwaway PC that cant attack other devices on the network

My thinking too. The only other place I'm seeing a reference to it stealing your tax info is a post on the Steam forums that was posted 11 hours ago, like this post.

I'm not saying you should put your SSN into a game either way, that's dumb.

If *any* game asks you for your SSN, just lie or turn it off. If you're playing Super Mario Bros and Luigi says "mama mia Mario, we a-need our social security numbers to get to the a-next world" then just... don't type it in?

Yeah I would just report the game. Maybe the devs had good intention with this game or something, but any game that asks for something confidential as your SSN should absolutely give everyone red flags.
