Like, I deleted key lines and had no idea where they went. I also had no backup, so it's just lost. I'll revise it tomorrow when I'm not as tired because right now my writing quality is just deteriorating. On the plus side, I met the word count I'd hoped for and I've learned a couple of things. Like, yes, it's a good idea to have a backup for reference. Like, keep a Chapter 1 file and a Chapter 1 (Outdated) file. Then, if you get too cute in your revisions, you can always start over from where you were. Also, whereas a film is about seeing your way through a story, a book is about feeling your way through a story. I was trying to go back and detail establishing shots like I was writing a screenplay or something. As soon as I sleep to un-drowsy myself, I'm going to go back and rewrite that so that the descriptions have an emotional value instead of a superfluous visual quality. The reader isn't going to care what the town looks like if the opening paragraphs don't hook them. I had a couple of Ws and an L today.
