I'd never play it so I read the story and it's parallel worlds and it gets so fucking confusing. I am saying this without spoiler tags. The music is phenomal and the music in Radical Dreamers is too.

But sometimes they just try too hard with this time travel/alternate dimension shit. And I thought Steins;Gate sometimes could be hard to follow it started here!!

Its honestly not that complicated. The same people who call it convoluted love FF7, which is wild.

There are some parts about Chrono Cross that I would consider kind of complicated, but the main plot is not one of them.

The main plot of Chrono Cross is really strong. It has to be because like other people have mentioned, the majority of the cast is kind of shallow. It's very much a story driven by a handful of people and its main thrust is its events instead of its character development

Now when you start digging into stuff like what the Dead Sea is supposed to be, at that point you can start getting lost in the weeds. But at the same time I feel like that stuff is supposed to be mysterious and you aren't supposed to comprehend it entirely at a glance because the characters in the game sure as hell aren't.

Idk why people made a fuss on the side characters. They're just bonus, you can finish the game with only the story characters.
They have no need for deep backstory either. And there's still many characters that have backstory anyways.

It's not even as bad as FFT, where everyone stopped being relevant in the story after recruited.

That's because ff7 has a very simple surface interpretation; a bunch of cool eco terrorists fightinf an evil corporation run into a crazy samurai guy who wants to blow up the earth with a meteor because ??? ultimate power and then they all stab him so he doesn't....more or less.

Where's the basic plot of Chrono Cross is..I'm not entirely sure.

I love it! One of my favourite games of all time along with Chrono Trigger.

Serge gets sucked into a parallel world where he died as a kid. Mystery ensues. Its even simpler than FF7 at base.

If you want to delve in one more layer, ||serge gets caught up in a conflict between a computer from the future and dinosaurs from the past, all part of a plot by an old guy to save a girls life and kill the thing from CT once and for all.|| again still about as simple as FF7.

CC is not simple and it's convoluted as fuck. Its plot is a huge shit storm. FF7 is direct and tells you everything and isn't about time and dimensional traveling.

Chrono Cross's story is easy to follow if you pay attention and read what the characters are saying.

Oh so its convoluted because its about time and dimension traveling and it doesnt matter I just easily explained the plot in simple terms? Interesting.

CC also tells you everything. In a way thats less well done (infodump) but easier to parse than FF7 does. I still dont fully understand the cloud/Zack fuckery, although thats partially because I dont care.

Is Chrono Cross good?

For a couple playthroughs, sure. Other than that, it's short lived. The ties to Chrono Trigger are minimal at best. The game has multiple endings via play conditions, but that doesn't mean the average gamer will be able to stand several playthroughs to do it. Just Youtube the ones you miss lmao...

If a game is good for a COUPLE PLAYTHROUGHS thats pretty good.

That was never confirmed. The only character we even hear anything about is Lucca, and it's never even confirmed that SHE died, much less anyone else.

This is completely false. Cross literally could not have happened without Trigger... Half the fucking game is about the consequences of what happened in CT.

I am at least thankful for this topic since it has confirmed what I have believed about CC haters. At the end of the day it really does just always boil down to "brain no understand" huh.

-Group heals are overpowered and cheap. Everyone can easily group heal.
-The best characters are easily gotten.
-The main has an opaf weapon

I can understand the game while also acknowledging that it's convoluted as fuck but you knew that already. Take off your nostalgia glasses. The game is shit.
