Amazing game that gets an unfair amount of criticism for "not being enough like Chrono Trigger" or "having too many characters". One of my favorites.

Yes, only real complaint is the 40+ characters where only a handful have any meaningful depth besides "has an x accent" and if you're a CT purist expecting CT 2.

Definitely worth it. PC version just got patched to not be a complete tire fire too, so all versions are worth it.

It is absolutely worth 13 dollars. It has flaws, mainly the lack of depth for many characters and a somewhat rushed and confusing ending. But the journey is worth it, and its just a beautiful game.

I literally can't remember anything about it other than how it made Trigger worse by association. Any game that does that is a piece of shit.

There are barely any combo attacks. It is turn based and has three characters. You can see enemies on the field before combat, rather than random encounters. Aside from that, its almost nothing like Chrono Trigger at all. The battle system is really wildly different.

ok so obviously everyone posting itt played CC as a kid and have nostalgia glasses on. i do the same when heaping praise on FFT suiko 2 etc

as someone who played CT but not CC, does CC hold up at all? or is it one of em games that didnt age well but we all love anyway like xenogears

ive played it recently, and its great. and my partner who had never played it and barely played games at all as a kid played it and enjoyed it greatly. She did play CT first (her first RPG ever.)

Thats not how sequels work. CT remains the exact same game with the exact same story. If you didnt like the developments in CC you can just ignore them.

I liked CT but I don't remember much about the story so I doubt CC having a weird story will bother me.

Yes

I don't think so though I never really gave it a good real chance. The music though is 9/10 easily. I was actually playing this game called Avernum in 2012 and it had no music so I would just run this soundtrack on youtube behind my game.

Its one of the most atmospheric and somber games Ive ever played. It takes itself very seriously, but has a bunch of silly characters sucked into a situation that is really dark and gloomy.

Battle system is really basic and you never need to actually get deep with it, because nothing takes advantage of it, outside of the two final bosses.

Looks good.

Amazing OST.

I actually like how it connects to Trigger. Makes you care more about fixing things and makes you hate the villains even more. It also brings up a good point about who really are the villains, in terms or humanity vs nature. (Although it seemed the Planet really did want Crono to win)

It's worth 13 bucks with some caveats imo. It has pacing issues a weird level up system, isn't nearly as polished as Chrono trigger and pisses all over it's plot

But it is a classic square jrpg so it's somehow solid under all that

Don't lie to him like that. CT had combos as the core and CC has a couple between specific characters as callbacks at best. The combat isn't combo focused.

I'd never play it so I read the story and it's parallel worlds and it gets so fucking confusing. I am saying this without spoiler tags. The music is phenomal and the music in Radical Dreamers is too.

But sometimes they just try too hard with this time travel/alternate dimension shit. And I thought Steins;Gate sometimes could be hard to follow it started here!!

Straight up it won't hold up as well as CT because it makes a lot of weird choices and is kind of unfinished in places. But it's not a total mess like Xenogears, bless it's heart was.

CT is on a gameplay standpoint I think without playing much of CC is waaaaay better.

But if you just want a offbeat journey with amazing music yea give CC a shot. You don't level except for fighting bosses and there are a ton of characters who probably get zero development. Just play Suikoden :P

Great music, mediocre everything else.

Soundtrack ruled Chrono Cross seems very average or below.

It's a good game but a disappointing sequel if you wanted a continued happy ending for Trigger. The story is messy but I think makes sense of you play it a few times or engage with another person to talk it through.

The music is amazing. Combat it pretty good as far as turn based systems go. The leveling system pushes you away from grinding. There are several stand out characters unfortunately there are too many meaningless characters. If you choose to not focus on them it really doesn't matter.

It's absolutely worth the dollar value.

No. Although if the graphics are remastered, that will make it a decent game.

You can also miss out on some solid characters if you make intuitive JRPG 'correct' choices for that time.

Yeah, you can get screwed out of recruiting the best mage for the first part of the game (who remains pretty solid even at the end tbh), and one of the best physical/overall characters this way.

It's a GOAT tier for music and Art Direction.

Its story jumps up Its own ass pretty quickly, but that's kind of the charm of psx era RPGs.

Overall I think it's a solid 9. It's also worth noting I played Cross before Trigger, so I don't have the same nostalgia attachment to Trigger as some folks do.
