With the ongoing Aaron Rodgers drama and the draft coming up next month, we could probably still use a general discussion topic, so here it is.

The Draft coming up! Which QB goes first? And who else takes a QB? I'd guess the Texans and Colts at the very least. (And the Panthers, obviously)

Word is that the Panthers want Stroud. Someone pointed out the other day that Frank Reich has never coached a QB shorter than 6'2" so he seems to have a type.

I mean the average QB height is 6'3, so I feel like that's not really saying much.

They've got nothing to lose for now, but I imagine they want a pick for this draft, so they can't wait too long.

If the Packers are willing to walk away with nothing, then they have nothing to lose. Rodgers retires or sits on the bench. If the Jets walk away without Rodgers... who do they go into 2023 with? Zac Wilson? Fans won't be very understanding unless Wilson has a historic turnaround. Taking a QB with 13 is just gambling on another QB. Their best choice then becomes signing... Carson Wentz.

I don't know why people think the Packers' choices are "we trade Rodgers or he retires." The man is extremely petty, and I can easily see him showing up at the facilities, opting in to his guaranteed huge salary (they definitely don't want to pay him 60 million to sit on the bench), and making things uncomfortable for them if they botch the trade because they overplayed their hand.

It's not even about his shoulder specifically, just his style of play is not sustainable. He's 34. He's never been super accurate, relying on his athleticism mostly. When that diminishes, players like him suffer more dramatic falls than most.

Well, it's that style of play that ruined his shoulder, but even if he could still move like he used to, the fact that he has no arm strength left would still prevent him from being a viable QB.

Which is kinda sad.

That's still an overpay on the Jets part IMO but I guess it's slightly better than sending the 13th pick.

I'm resigned that it's going to cost more than the Favre trade was but I don't think it should be much more but I'm pretty sure it will end up being a lot more.

I can't imagine we pay him as a backup. If we do, sure, and I get that Hall is coming off a torn acl... but I would think we pay him more than he's worth and doing that for an aging rb that's had injury issues is so so dumb

I heard that the Raiders and Jets were by far the worst teams at drafting in rounds 1 and 2 in the league in a stat a couple of years ago, though the Jets (outside of the obvious bust at QB) have done much better recently.

The Raiders have been a dumpster fire in the draft for many years and their first round picks tend to not even be on the team 3 or 4 years later.

the Raiders number feels impossible because it's wrong - it's probably some sort of hiccup caused by the switch from Oakland to Las Vegas

number of snaps really doesn't mean anything anyway without context - a bunch of the teams at the top are there by virtue of having more compensatory picks, which is sometimes an intentional strategy (Baltimore) and sometimes a result of bad cap management (Dallas)

100% believe that about the Jets. You're right that they seem better at that right now but in the past I basically didn't value their draft picks at all because they couldn't draft for shit so in a way I kinda understood the "do everything in free agency" mentality they had - at least as a stopgap.

To be clear, the Cowboys have been incredible at drafting for the past like 10-15 years (We don't talk about Taco Charlton except to mention that he's practically the only high-end miss they've had)

It's everything else about their team building that has kept them from going over the top.

Lamar has fucked himself and is the prime example for why agents are needed, as scummy as they are. It's just so personal at this point and he has no one to put him in check. I want players to make as much as possible because they are putting their bodies on the line for our entertainment but... he's really messed this up
