China experts say North Korea can hit the U.S. in 35 minutes or less depending on the location. Would you hope to be in the center of the blast so you just vaporize or would you want to try and stick it out from the radiation fall out?

Stick it out. I don't live near what could be their primary target so the fallout would be minimal at most.

Id probably rather listen to experts on North Korea, rather than China

my county is in the top 10 population wise in the country...

Im kind of screwed, i currently live in one of the top 10 biggest cities.

No game plan is safe and we know from Japan that radiation stays present for decades so I only hope we never see a nuclear war ever.

I'd argue surviving a nuclear explosion is worse in nearly every way than dying in one. Vaporize 100%.

The only good way to survive a nuclear blast is to be absolutely nowhere near one in the first place.


If actual nuclear war breaks out I'm pretty much dead no matter what. Being right in the middle between NYC and Philly and a few hours north of both Baltimore and Washington DC means I'm more or less right at the heart of the shit hitting the fan.

If I even survive the first strike (NYC being the most likely problem), I'm probably roasted to the born and irradiated to fuck. At which point I'm probably just slitting my wrists and laying down to die because fuck that noise.

And even if I survived all that by some miracle, I'm still fucked because the fallout is going to hit my area worse than pretty much anywhere else.

Ironically, I actually DO have a Cold War-era fallout shelter like 2 minutes away from me, so in theory with enough warning I could potentially try to get into it. But I have no idea if it's been maintained at all over the last 30+ years, and it was probably never all that effective in the first place (most fallout shelters were more for the PR value than actually able to protect against nukes). And even if it worked perfectly I'd still be stuck inside until someone could evacuate me somehow. So I'd probably still be screwed in there even if I could get in.

On the other hand, if it's just North Korea lobbing nukes the best they could possibly do would likely be to hit the West Coast, in which case I'd probably be relatively fine other than the hit to the economy and produce.

There's literally a major air force base down the street from me. I can see it when I step out my front door. So I'm fucking dead.

During the Cold War the targeting criteria was (in order of priority)

1. Any military base at all
2. All airports
3. Urban Centers of 50k or more population

So ya, if you are in a town of 50k, with a base AND an airport... that's a minimum of 3 nukes going your way

If it's just one North Korean nuclear missile, I'd be more worried about being drafted into the war that happens than being killed by the nuke or the fallout.

If North Korea launched a nuke at the US, it would cease to exist within a day. There wouldn't be a war.

Yeah. Not to mention China, South Korea, and Japan would all try to shoot it down before it even reaches the Pacific Ocean

If NK could hit us they would have already, and even then it would get shot down before it gets to us

I doubt the US will ever have to worry about getting hit by a nuke given that we would shoot it down over the ocean

The only way NK would start world war 3 is if China got involved, if they sent a single nuke at us we would blow them up back to the stone age. The entire country would just be a wasteland of nothing.

You should see the pictures of what Hiroshima looked like after it got hit with one nuke back at the end of WW II and realize that is only a fraction of what a modern nuke can do.

Yeah the SECOND NK goes against China they would fucking end them in a minute. That includes being dumb enough to launch a nuke at anybody.
